We have a couple of returning guests this morning, Chanel Garcia from FirstLight HomeCare of SouthBay and Laurie Glover from Silverado-Beach Cities.

Chanel Garcia is currently the Business Development Manager for FirstLight HomeCare of SouthBay. With 10 years of experience in health care, and a comprehensive background in non-medical in-home care, she is committed to helping adults of all ages stay safe and comfortable in and out of the home. As a marketer, networker, and care advocate for FirstLight, she is demonstrating this commitment by actively engaging the community with educational outreach. 

Laurie Glover joined the Silverado-Beach Cities’ team with years of experience working with older adults and their families who are dealing with the life changing diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias. She began her career in the aging field by providing care to both of her grandparents as they faced terminal illnesses. After this experience, she began providing care to community members and attended college to become a nurse. Realizing her strengths lay in education and community outreach, Laurie transitioned into business development and has since become a speaker for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association; a member of the Keep-Safe Coalition; and a volunteer for hospice.

Doug Burkett is the Co-Founder and Southern Cal Sales Manager for Rebel Coast. Doug, a born and raised cowboy from La Crescenta, has the biggest heart and personality this side of the barrel room. Part city slicker, part country heart-throb, Doug enjoys riding motorcycles off into the sunset and kicking saloon doors in all over the country while on his wild adventures. He travels like a gypsy to make sure all their accounts are happy and well taken care of, and never complains. Not that it’s a bad time judging by his text messages.

Tiaan Schreuder is the Senior Art Director at Rebel Coast because the junior one is their goat, Poptart. Tiaan moved here from South Africa because… well, tacos. Chip and Kate saved the, some would say “chiseled”, import from a terrible hangover by handing him a bottle of Sunday at Burning Man.. 

You can’t have a road warrior without the Warrior part. Nick Sampson is the champion of the California highway system. He makes the world’s best trip planner look like an amateur. Mostly because he can do it in his sleep, and despite driving a ’67 VW bus that maxes out at 55mph, he hits more cities and wine-tastings than the pope on a world tour.

This morning, we’re supposed to talk about Rebel Coast Winery, what they do and how they do it, but judging from this intro, that conversation will likely go off the rails pretty quickly!

Lisa’s career has been spent almost entirely in the nonprofit arena. She has spent 30 years leading fundraising, marketing and fund development efforts for emerging nonprofit organizations in the areas of healthcare, education & social services, leveraging leadership and other key volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.

Lisa’s passion is fundraising for vital programs and services, empowering and stabilizing thousands of disenfranchised families. Lisa has raised money for a variety of causes including economic education, HIV/AIDS services, pregnant and parenting teens in foster care, public dental assistance, and youth and early childhood education services and currently is the Director of Development at South Bay Children’s Health Center.

Lisa is a California native who is married and has three children. She earned her BS in Marketing from California State University Long Beach, and her MBA with a Marketing emphasis at Loyola Marymount University. She also recently became a Lecturer in the Department of Business Management, teaching Nonprofit Management at Loyola Marymount University.

This morning, we’ll learn about the services the South Bay Children’s Health Center provides and a special event scheduled for July 16.

A nationally and internationally recognized Recreation and Parks professional and public speaker, Idris Jassim Al-Oboudi is a highly motivated, energetic, passionate leader with vision and a pragmatic approach to recreation issues and needs. He has developed programs that deliver quality recreation services in a cost-efficient manner and is committed to enhancing and preserving a high quality of life through a wide variety of leisure, cultural and community services in well-maintained facilities. Idris has 33 years of progressive experience in administrative and supervisory capacities.

Michael Hudak is a local kid, born and raised in the City of Whittier. He attended California State University at Long Beach and completed his master’s degree in Sport Management and bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies.  Michael has worked in the Recreation and Leisure field for the last nine years and during this time he’s had the opportunity to work with some great recreational programs and organizations, ranging from youth as young as 5 to seniors as old as 95, and with youth playing their first ever organized game, all the way up to professional athletes.

Presented by the City of Manhattan Beach and Skechers, the Manhattan Beach Open Tennis Open will take place July 7 through July 10.

Our guests this morning are Lisa Coffi, Suzanne Dean and Cylan Brown from Shakespeare by the Sea.

Suzanne Dean is the Associate Artistic and Development Director for Los Angeles based Shakespeare by the Sea; Co-Founder/Associate Artistic Director of Little Fish Theatre; a freelance film/video producer; and an actress. She has been a part of SBTS since 2000.  An active member of the international Shakespeare Theatre Association, she serves on the Shakespeare’s Legacy 400 (1616-2016) Committee as the Lead of the We Are Shakespeare Digital Video Festival. Suzanne also contributes as a grant writer and development consultant for non-profit arts organizations in Los Angeles and the Bay Area.

After appearing on the SBTS stage many times, and assistant directing The Tempest last year, Cy Brown is very excited to be making his first full length directing debut with SBTS. He has recently directed The 39 Steps and ever popular Pick of the Vine short plays series for Little Fish Theatre. 

Lisa Coffi , Founder & Producing Artistic Director of Shakespeare by the Sea, is delighted to present the 19th season of Shakespeare plays, delivered under the stars at locations throughout Southern California. She has an MFA in Theatre Management from CSU, Long Beach, and a BFA from CSU, Sacramento. Lauded as “Pedro’s Playmaker” by Random Lengths News.

This season, Shakespeare by the Sea presents two brand new productions staged at venues throughout the South Bay. Performances of Cymbeline and Othello will take place during July and August and this morning, we’re going to learn what audiences can expect.
