This week we are hitting some listener Q&A submissions, then talking about how we are planning our trip for Iowa! Q&A's are:
This one has been years in the making! Long-time listeners know Scott, and Mark is a lifelong buddy of Scott's.
They are known to us locally as the kings of a certain WMA...having a very long history of killing great bucks out there. One great thing about Scott & Mark is that they keep things simple, and anyone could use these tactics. Subjects include:
- The #1 piece of sign to focus on for locating mature bucks
- Always scout after a good rain
- Finding a buck's orbit
- Hunting thick pine country
- Hunting the natural browse that deer love
- Keep things simple
- Keep things fun
and a ton more! If you enjoy this episode, share it with a buddy!

“You can know all this stuff and still not be a killer. You’ve got to put yourself in position over and over again and be willing to blow it and keep learning. That’s what a good predator does.” - Jim Forbes
In this throwback episode, we are bringing EP. 190 back to the top of the feed! In this episode, we interview Jim Forbes, a highly successful mountain buck hunter from Virginia.
Jim has kept a journal of all his hunters for 30+ years. Over the years he has identified what it is that makes him successful and keeps doubling down on it. Jim puts a ton of focus on being a good predator and using woodsmanship.
This is an all-time favorite episode of ours! Y'all enjoy.

What really makes a buck disappear?
Today we are hitting some listener Q&A submissions as well as recapping some recent trips we went on! Questions:
1. Do we ever try to target specific bucks? Why or why not?
2. What are our thoughts on using handheld thermals to avoid bumping deer while entering and exiting the woods?
We go on to discuss Jacobs fishing trip in Venice, LA, Jacob's successful turkey hunt in WI, or recent road trip we spent recording podcast interviews, and Andrew's new strategy for scouting his club.

If you are trying to learn how to hunt whitetail deer on terrain features, this episode will be a "light bulb moment" for you.
Chuck Young is a very accomplished mountain hunter from western Arkansas. He focuses heavily on 3 particular types of terrain features that he has found success on over, and over again.
We discuss what those 3 types of terrain features are, why they are productive, and how to hunt each of them. We then dive into the best of the best when it comes to hunting terrain: compounding features.
If you get something out of this episode, make sure you share it with a buddy!
