The Southern Outdoorsmen Hunting Podcast

In this episode, we sit down with Scott Trulock, owner of Trulock Chokes and a true Southern outdoorsman, to talk about all things turkey hunting, shotguns, and the wild journey of learning to hunt when no one else in your family does it.

Scott shares how he got hooked on turkey hunting after his time in the Marine Corps — with no mentors, no traditions, and no roadmap. We dive deep into how hunting in the Deep South has changed over the years, why today’s turkey seasons feel so different, and how gear (especially chokes) has evolved to meet modern hunters’ needs.

Plus, Scott breaks down critical tips around choosing the right choke for your shotgun, why over-choking is a real problem, and how hunters can avoid some of the biggest mistakes that cost them birds.

Ronnie "Cuz" Strickland is a legend in the outdoor world, especially when it comes to turkey hunting.

A long-time friend of the show, Cuz, first came on The Southern Outdoorsmen on Episode 6! Cuz has always been generous with his time and his knowledge, and in this interview, we talk with him about his upbringing.

Cuz learned to hunt from some of the deep south old pros - local legends who learned to hunt when game was much more scarce. He even learned from some legends before they were legends, such as Col. Tom Kelley.

Cuz has a pilosophy of learning from the past without living in it. In this interview he goes over mixing old school and new school ways of turkey hunting, developing your own method and much more.
