The Southern Outdoorsmen Hunting Podcast

Bob Walker is a turkey hunting legend in the southeast.

A longtime guide at the legendary Bent Creek Lodge in Alabama, Bob has spent many years hunting every day of turkey season. Throughout the years, Bob has observed a lot of turkey behavior...and a lot of turkey hunter behavior!

In this episode, Bob shares some of his biggest lessons learned while turkey hunting. We dive deep on turkey behavior, turkey calling, and more. He also shares some very interesting tidbits from his experience guiding other turkey hunters - touching on subtle things that most turkey hunters do that decrease their odds of success while turkey hunting.

Throwback time! This is one of our most listened to turkey episodes ever, and for good reason! Dave Owens of the Pinhoti Project is a great turkey hunter, and he is great at communicating what makes him successful.

This episode originally aired several years ago, and has racked up many listener success stores since it was released! Make sure you check out Dave's youtube channel here - https://www.youtube.com/c/DaveOwensthePinhotiProject

Eddie Salter is an absolute legend in the world of turkey hunting.

We drove to his place in Evergreen, Alabama to sit down and talk with him about his greatest lessons learned over the years. This episode has everything from hunting history to practical advice on turkey calling and hunting to hilarious hunting stories!

Eddie is a great guy, a true woodsman and an incredible storyteller. Whether he is talking about his grandfather figuring out how to make a mouth call in 1929, or some of his most memorable hunts, there is always something to take away from his stories!

In this video, we sit down with Mississippi legend and world champion turkey caller Preston Pittman.

Preston has spent a life in the woods of Mississippi, hunting and fishing for any game species the state offers, but is best known for turkey calling and hunting. We talk with Preston about his upbrining, his old-school turkey hunting mentors from the 1960's, and some of Preston's best hunting stories and lessons learned in the turkey woods.

Preston also gives a demonstration of how to call turkeys with your natural voice.

Our buddies, Johnathan Holsomback and Baxley Shores are two of the best shed hunters and post-season scouters that we know! In this episode we met up with Baxley and Johnathan to talk about the unexpected places they usually find sheds on public ground in Alabama. We also discuss what information sheds can give you for deer hunting upcoming seasons and one interesting trick Johnathan has learned for locating sheds on properties dominated by pine plantations.

Today, we are doing a THROWBACK to one of our favorite scouting episodes! Nathan Killen & Rusty Johnson are both top-notch hunters when it comes to targeting mature bucks on public land, and on this episode, we had them both on to discuss their post-season scouting strategies.

Rusty Johnson and Nathan Killen have several things in common, things like consistently tagging some of the biggest bucks in their area, and a love for post-season scouting & shed hunting. Both Rusty and Nathan attribute a lot of their success to the work they are putting in right now to learn their woods, sharpen their wordsmanship skills, locate surviving bucks and find sheds. We got Nathan and Rusty on at the same time to dive into this subject and share their knowledge, as well as bounce things off one another. As Nathan says in this episode, iron sharpens iron and the guys get into a lot of great information here. Make sure you share this podcast with a buddy and leave us a 5 star review on itunes!
