This week we go into the vault to find two of our favorite listener success stories from last season!
Perry Bundy of NC is our listener success story of the day! Perry recently knocked down an absolute stud of a North Carolina buck recently - and we dive into how he utilized advice from his hunting mentors, along with guests from this podcast, to put his first nice buck down. Topics hit on include scrape tactics, using a trail cam to make his move, being able to read feed sign, walking WAY further than other hunters to find this buck, hunting transitions/diversity & more!
Happy thanksgiving! We have a great listener success story this week out of Georiga! Jake Reese located a big, old palmated buck during the summer months - after a difficult bow season he was able to seal the deal on the buck in rifle season, more than a mile from where he first got pictures of the deer! Jake cites episodes "141. Find & Hunt a buck's core area w/ Josh Driver" and "116. Extreme Southern Deer Hunting Tactics with Glen Solomon" for giving him tactics and new ideas in the hunt for this deer.

Jacob made his Iowa trip happen and it paid off BIG TIME! On Sunday Jacob was able to connect on a heck of a buck! Tune in to hear all about his tacitcs, how this hunt is differing from the Dilla's trip earlier in December, and how Michael and Matthew Perry plan to fill Michael's tag in the last few days of the hunt. This podcast has a ton of laughs and some interesting comparisons on the midwest vs the south. Dexter Gouger has figured out a mock scrape system that has brought him a ton of success in a short amount of time! In this episode we dive into his unique way of using mock scrapes, which includes always trying to hunt them within 48 hours of making them. Dexter has taken several very nice bucks over the last 3 years using this tactic in several areas in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee on both public land private lands.

On this outtro we are talking all about Jacobs latest buck, a nice 5.5 year old 8 point he was able to tag on a recent trip to a WMA with past guest Wes Moye. Jacob and Wes utilized the "wolf pack" mind set and got a group of guys together to hit a specific thicket and it worked perfectly that day!

In the last mian episode of the year we have a fun roundtable with some of our closest buddies. We are joined by JT Watkins, Clay Colley & Baxley Shores to talk about everything from scrapes to black panthers! Baxley has had a ton of luck over the last few years on scrapes so we dive in to those hunts and some interesting points about what he looks for in scrapes that leads him to finding bucks using them in daylight. We then go off into the weeds on a lot of fun and funny tangents. We hope y'all are having a great last few days of 2021 and we cant wait to roll into 2022 full steam ahead!

On this outtro we all dive into the topics from Monday and provide some clarifications on some of Tom's points. We also talk about how the ideas from Mondays episode may pan out in a real world whitetail deer hunting scenario.
Tom Brownley is a nationally renowned former Canine instructor and adjunct professor of anthrozoology - and someone who has spent his life professionally learning about scent, how it travels across the landscape, how it dissipates, how long it lasts, how it escapes enclosed areas and so much more. This week we have a really in depth and fascinating discussion on all things scent and how it relates to us as deer hunters, including whether we can cover, mask or eliminate our scent, how long our scent really lasts, the truth about ground scent, the little things you do that can leave scent in an area for TWO MONTHS, how wind moves scent and at what rate, the dissipation of scent in cover and much much more!

On this week's Listener Success Story Jacob is talking to Carson McBride of Arkansas about his recent success taking his biggest buck to date. Carson talks a lot about how ep. 288 with Rusty Johnson helped changed the way he hunts the mountains of northern Arkansas. This is a great story from a young man that is on the fast track to a very successful hunting career!
If you have success using tips or tactics you've heard on the show then shoot us an email or message on social media. Maybe we will choose you and your story for a future episode of The Southern Outdoorsmen Podcast.
In this episode we discuss the difference between Tim's idea of not letting trail cams rule when or where you hunt vs past gusts who have said the opposite, and why both of those mindsets can work.
