So let me tell you why I’m in completely awe of SAFE Kenya. They are out there doing God’s work!!! There is a particular community in Masaii land where girls are no longer being genitaly mutilated because of the intervention of SAFE Maa. They are educating young people on the dangers of practicing unsafe sex and are also education people on the pleasures of sex and sexuality. They are out here just blowing my mind! And I had the opportunity to interview a few of the people closely affiliated with the organization. So I don’t want to get into too much but just wow. Listen in!

This is Season 3 and I am your host Kaz.

This season I want to focus on the decolonization of sexualities. What’s that you might ask? Well, here’s a short description I put together to help you understand better. Prior to European and arab intrusion in Eastern Africa, we had a vast spectrum of sexualities and everyone pretty much lived happily within their homesteads in this regard. Colonialism brought about violence and war and rape and pillage and death. Colonialism also made sure that the psychological teachings they brought with them and forced upon our ancestors would be used to suppress up as Africans and indigenous people around the world, for generations to come.

The decolonization of these things is refusing the oppressor to win and reclaiming everything that was once ours, starting with ourselves and beautiful black bodies. Learning to love our curves, learning to love our differences, learning to love our love, our sex and our sexuality. I know, it sounds so much easier to say than it is do so first we must unlearn everything that we know that that has caused us negativity and anxiety towards ourselves and others and slowly we will see that where there were cracks, the light will come shining in.

Our first episode of the season kicks off with Julie Goko at a LIVE podcast recording with a few lovely spreaders. We tackle so many of your questions including; how to jazz further, how to handle your partners low libido and navigating being queer in Kenya.

Sincere apologies from the Kaz entertainment team, I realized that my last podcast episode came out without condolences to the Riverside attack victims. Tragedy befell us at the beginning of the year and people lost their lives, lost loved ones, were in fear of their lives inside 14 riverside. It’s all terrible and we are deeply sorry for anyone who had to encounter any of that even from far away. So for everyone who went through that or anyone who had to re-live trauma from either the Garissa tragedy of the Westgate tragedy, don’t worry, we all stand together as a nation. And it made me so proud to be a Kenyan and see how everyone stood in solidarity as we picked up the broken pieces. The things I love about my homeland Kenya. The things that make me proud to be Kenyan.
