Will expresses his concern for Lauren's tardiness that morning, and Kym chimes in with a flattering comment about Lauren's eyebags. Kym and Will quickly get into an argument, but Will soon returns to his duties and tells Lauren to visit the infirmary and take the day off.   

Will and Kym go on patrol, discussing what they think is up with Lauren. They very quickly get distracted by the Circus Royale, a troupe with names from the Greek Pantheon. We learn that this troupe was started 15 years ago by Viscount Radcliffe, for whose ball the APD is providing security on February 17th. The circus is made up of homeless Greychapel orphans and the Viscount bought his title.  

Athena challenges the crowd to a marksmanship duel with Artemis, and Kym shoves her watermelon off to Will to accept. The troupe seems antagonistic towards the APD, despite Kym's success.   

Back at the APD office, Lauren is being seen at the infirmary. As she lies there, prone, Kieran checks in on her, feeling guilty. She comes to a decision - she needs to talk to Kieran.

The APD has a new archivist, and it's... Kieran! Lauren freaks out, especially when she notices that he has what seems to be a gun tucked into his pocket.  

She immediately thinks of all of her friends, dead at the APD. She steps forward to shake his hand, remembering all their previous violent interactions.   

Kieran steps out to the bathroom, and Lauren accosts him there and attacks him. Kieran tries to explain himself as Lauren beats him up, with no resistance from Kieran. He tells her about his new assignment as mole, but also his directive to kill Lune. Ha.   

Lauren laughs, accuses Kieran of being heartless, and stalks out, and Kieran is left alone, looking at his hands and hating himself.

As Charles walks up the stairs to Sam's apartment, he reflects on last night's encounter with Eva. Turns out she gave him a taste of his own medicine, throwing his own move back at him. Which is a good thing, given that he would have slept with Eva otherwise and regretted it.  

He walks into Sam's apartment, berating himself to be better behaved, but unfortunately for him and his wishes for self-control, he finds a wide eyed Sam unzipped, asking for help.  

He fiddles with her zipper for a while but eventually gives in and starts kissing her neck. 

When Sam stops him, he jerks back and apologizes for being too forward. Sam informs him that in fact, she was the one who was obliquely forward, with her cough cough "need for help."  

We switch to the Daily Grind, where we discover that it was actually our queen Monica who was the impetus behind Sam's scheme.

We open with Tora on a bridge, overlooking Narin City. He thinks through his charged day trying to track down Gil and shoot him, unsuccessfully.   He begins getting upset at himself, and recalls Joe's voice in his head, telling him to keep a light on. 

He begins to panic, hyperventilating and blacking out, his negative thoughts swirling together with his affirmative thoughts and glimpses of Alice's encouraging sign at the restaurant.  Desperate, he calls out for Poppy, and hears her voice. He uses deep breathing to calm himself, just as Poppy suggested, and it works. He stumbles back from the ledge, literally and figuratively.  

Meanwhile, Poppy experiences a moment of inexplicable dread, and calls out to Tora in her mind. JANE AND MR. ROCHESTER!!  It's over soon, though, and Poppy resolves not to let Tora's behavior go. Her day gets worse as she misses busses and skins her knee, waiting in traffic.  

Tora, back on the bridge, finally remembers that he was supposed to pick up Poppy. He reads the multiple text messages from Elron (Brian?), tries to reach Gyu, and can't even remember what it was that he said to Poppy. When he calls her, she is short on the phone, and hangs up on him.  

And just to make the day even better, Tora gets another alert from the motion sensor near Poppy's balcony.  Another false alarm? A real scare? We'll find out!

Poppy relives the past few minutes, trying to control her crying. Amazingly, she can actually get enough of a grip of her feelings to guess it has something to do with work.  

When Poppy returns to the office, Erdene and Quincy can tell something's up. Quincy speaks to Poppy and tries to reassure her that Tora can sometimes be curt.  

Poppy, alone at the office, tries to push her thoughts out of her mind, after deciding not to let him treat her that way. (YES!)  

She leaves at 6, waiting for Tora... who never shows up. 

By the time the sun is down, Poppy is worried about Tora... and so are we!

Sam shares some important information about what the game means to her, and then engages in some roleplay to make Dion feel better. They end their meaningful conversation with banter.  

We debate the identity of our mystery man. Marshall? Charles? Someone else entirely?   

Sam logs off and sees Marshall on his porch, looking sad, too. She asks him to help her with her game design, and Marshall reacts by being the cute little puppy that he is.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: This episode deals with heavy issues.  

We begin the episode with creepy Gil, who notices the dinosaur toy by his wife's body... but doesn't even register its significance, and kicks it aside.  We return to Poppy and Tora making their way to the coffee shop. 

They are conducting a light-hearted conversation, but inside of Tora's head, nervous and agitated thoughts are racing.  

We flashback to when Tora broke into Gil's apartment, where he overhears Gil's wife talking to their unborn child, showing him the stegosaurus toy she made. Tora flashes back to what we assume is someone showing him a T-Rex toy. When Gil's wife starts crying, Tora high tails it out of there.  

All these thoughts are swirling in Tora's head as they enter the cafe. He recollects their efforts to track Gyu and berates himself for not being more active. Receiving the text from Pinkie that Gil is gone is the final straw.  

He snaps into full work mode, curtly dismisses Poppy, and walks out.  

Poppy steels herself just enough to walk about, but the moment she has some privacy, her defenses come down and she starts crying.  

We discuss the implications of this behavior for Tora and Poppy and what it means for the story overall.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀:

Laurens stands in front of her board, looking at the picture of her parent's car outside the station that fateful day. She looks out the window & imagines her parents about to drive off.

She slides down uselessly, & a bloody Kieran tells her that it's not their deaths she could have prevented.

A small figure with gray hair comes forward. He tells her he knows she never meant to kill him. We learn that his name is Dylan.

We then have a flashback to the day of the tragedy. Dylan's dad, Mr. Rosenthal, is setting up flowers. Lauren & Dylan help, & Dylan explains the meaning of flowers, but says he wants to be a doctor.

Lauren hears an announcement about the train delay. She then hears someone near her, lying, "Right. The next train will leave at 10:45," but can't see who said it.

Dylan's dad gives them money & tells them to go to the bakery while Lauren hears yet another lie.

Before she can look too much, Dylan pops a daisy crown on her & while they are making another daisy chain, a car nearly runs Dylan over.

Lauren hurts her ankle pulling him, & Dylan goes into doctor mode. Lauren asks him to get his dad with his truck, & waits.

Finally, she gets impatient, but at that moment, there is a giant explosion. Pandemonium ensues & people flee from the scene. Lauren runs to it. She screams for Dylan, searching among the rubble, seeing people dead and & dying underfoot.

She stops short when she sees Dylan's cap, rembering the lies she heard & how she sent Dylan back.

Present Lauren, lying on the floor, wakes up from Bella's blow, crying. She is angry and frustrated that even with her ability, she is still blind.

She heads back to the Ardhalis police department where she learns that the APD has a new archivist.... and it's Kieran.

Monica and Sam converse at the park after Monica's busy day. Monica asks about Sam's date, noticing her hickey. Sam is embarrassed, but Monica tells her not to worry about what other people think.

Sam decides to ask for advice about Charles, and Monica asks her what her intensions are. Sam also, very uncomfortably, asks her about her premature enjoyment. Monica assures her that this is not a problem and gives her some practical advice.

When Sam once again feels she did something wrong, Monica gives some of the best advice, earning her the title of QUEEN.

Monica asks her to check in on Marshall. Potential future jealousy/backstabbing? She also notices that Bowser is jealous of Dina (more foreshadowing?), but tells her that there is plenty of love for both of them (even more foreshadowing??).

Through a series of flashbacks, we encounter Tim Sake playing cards, casting a baleful glance at a man, Kevin Chow, whom we then encounter on the ground, dead. 

Lauren is assigned to the case, and we see her interrogating Tim Sake. We learn that Tim used to work in Kevin's father's mines and that Chow was a big backer of the railways and other royal projects.  

When Sake utters lie after lie, Lauren tells him to stop, and asks him more questions. Sake only insists on digging his hole further, and when he utters a lie concerning the Allendale train tragedy, Lauren loses it. She grabs Tim Sake and shoves him against the one way mirror, cracking the glass.  

The APD pulls Lauren off of him just as other officers come by with Maria, his ex-wife, who has been framed for the death.   And this is the story of Lauren's demotion.  

We come back to the present, where we learn that Lauren has saved Sake at some point. Now Lauren asks him why he was in a car with license plate Y59 AGN at the train station the morning of the explosion. Sake responds that it was borrowed from a random rich family (lie) that was going to die anyway (true). 

He lies that there were only two of them in there, and drops that there were children in the car. She asks if the people in the car are still alive, to which Sake responds, all lies, "Yes. No. I don't know."  

Behind her, Belladonna is swinging her infamous snake blade, and Lauren blacks out.
