In tonight’s show, we have Shawn of the Into The Wilderness YouTube Channel on with us to talk about everyday carry supplies, prepping in the city, and managing your prepping budget. We’ll also talk about what Shawn can do as far as preparing is concerned, given his current situation.

More goes into it than what you put in your pockets when it comes to everyday prepping gear. EDC is about having the supplies you need available when needed, and sometimes those supplies are in your head.

EDC & Car Kits

During the segment where we talked about EDC supplies, we also went into detail about car kits and what supplies we keep in our vehicles. As we said in the show, you might as well use any space you have available for prepping gear.

In that segment, we talked about survival bars and other food options, standard emergency car kits, and a few things that most people don’t think about, but preppers certainly do. Some of the most essential considerations are things people don’t have. Having a jack, a lug wrench, jumper cables, and a way to fix a flat tire are all simple things some people ignore.

Prepping in the City

During the show, a listener asked a question about living in a condo and the prepping challenges. This turned into a good conversation about the challenges of prepping in the city and the challenges you might face.

You will have to deal with other people, whether you are prepping in a condo, prepping in an apartment, or prepping in a neighborhood where the houses are almost on top of each other. You can be doing everything right, but they can still affect your situation if they aren’t.

In today’s show we go over episode 3 of the Doomsday Preppers series, and also water storage and water safety. One of the most important aspects of preparedness and survival is water, and it’s also the most challenging part. Getting water is one thing; having enough to last an extended period of time is quite another.

Tim Ralston (preparing for an EMP) is possibly the most memorable show that Nat Geo did, and perhaps the one that did the most damage to preppers.

Water Storage & Safety

With all the different areas of preparedness we need to think about, water storage is relatively straightforward. You need one gallon, per person, per day, and it needs to be stored in a container that isn’t going to leak all over the floor.

While that sounds pretty simple, there is much more to water storage than that. Today’s show goes over water storage ideas, finding water in a disaster, and cleaning your water to make it drinkable.

Storing water is the simple part; keeping enough for your family and ensuring it’s safe to drink is a little more challenging. That’s why we need to look at every option available in or around our area.

Doomsday Preppers

In Season 1 Episode 3 of Doomsday Preppers (Link to Full Show Here) we discussed the guests Tim Ralston & Pat Brabble. While there are some great things both of these preppers have done, there are a couple of head-scratchers. We all know that the producers love making preppers look a little crazy, but they didn’t have to try hard in this episode.

Pat Brabble (Economic Collapse): Pat and his family have quite the preparedness plan, but a couple of things he did don’t make much sense. With that being said, there are aspects of his preparedness plans that probably make people a little jealous.   

Tim Ralston (EMP): While we try to be realistic in our assessment of the preppers on the show, this one had our blood boiling. By blowing his thumb off, Tim singlehandedly made preppers look dangerous and reinforced some people’s “crazy prepper” notions....

This week we have The Organic Prepper Daisy on with us to talk about her experiences with prepping when space is limited.  We’ll talk about some of the challenges she faced, and some of the solutions she found. We also go into what we can expect coming down the pipe like shortages, financial issues, and the possibility of more lockdowns.

We’ll also get an update on how things are going over at The Organic Prepper with her battle with censorship and suppression of alternative news. As we said in our last show with Daisy, this is only one tool they use to force an approved narrative.

In todays show, we discuss how sometimes we can lose focus on what really matters in preparedness and lose sight of our main goals. For us to maintain our preparedness level, we need to enjoy doing it. While there are some significant challenges, there is confidence to be gained from prepping as well.

Along with focusing on the important stuff, we’ll also be going over how prepping will help in everyday life, even if nothing happens, and how to handle any objections to prepping that you might hear. This goes for family, friends, or someone you have a casual relationship with.

While there is no doubt that preparedness comes with its own set of challenges, there is no need to add undue weight to an already complex collection of concerns. Sometimes we create these complexities without realizing we are, and by understanding them, we can avoid them.

At its core, prepping is relatively basic, but we can lose sight of the big picture at times by giving something more energy or attention than it deserves. Using the acronym K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid), we can avoid these distractions and focus on what truly matters.

While the average person may have some misguided beliefs about what a prepper is, they usually have no idea. The actual definition of a prepper is “An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances, without substantial resources from outside sources.” Not someone who is waiting (or hoping) for the world to end.

This week, we have a fantastic guest with us to talk about preparedness and the current political and social climate we are living in. Franklin Horton is one of the top dystopian fiction (prepper fiction) authors out there and is the real deal when it comes to prepping.

What makes Franklin stand out is that he doesn’t just write prepper fiction; he lives the preparedness lifestyle. Although the books he writes are fiction, they are packed with preparedness and survival lessons.

On top of being a great writer, Franklin has some great incites to share and has a great personality, and is very knowledgeable in all aspects of preparedness. As you will hear in the show, Franklin was raised having a preparedness mindset.

If you are like me and find it more convenient to listen to an Audible audiobook, Franklin’s got you covered. All his books are available on Audible. He also uses Kevin Peirce to narrate his books, who has (in my opinion) the perfect prepper fiction voice.

With all the challenges that come with prepping, we don’t need to add unnessesery problems or challenges to our plate. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done sometimes. Having the right mindset, and understanding when, where are why you are falling short can save you time and money in the long run.

Prepping Pitfalls & Roadblocks

When it comes to preparedness, there are many pitfalls we need to be aware of, especially if we’ve been prepping for a while. With preparedness covering such a wide range of topics, it can be pretty easy to get overwhelmed and overspent.

This week we’ll go over some of the areas of preparedness we need to pay more attention to and some things to avoid. Prepping can be hard enough without adding unnecessary headaches to the process.

Psychology of Survival

Last week we went into detail about building mental fortitude and why it’s so crucial in preparedness. We can purchase all the prepping supplies we want, but things could get tricky if your head is in the wrong place.

This week, we will continue by talking about some other things that can affect your mental state. Whether it’s you, a family member, or a child, everyone needs to be mentally prepared to handle challenging situations. An SHTF event will be hard enough without the added stress.

Who Can You Trust These Days?

Why is it that we are supposed to blindly trust the very people responsible for spreading misinformation on a continued basis? And why is it that people are so easily led in one direction or another? The same people claiming to be fighting misinformation do far more damage than Joe Blo posting memes on Facebook.

We’ll also be going over how it’s no longer acceptable to ask questions about specific topics these days. If you question anything these days, you are immediately labeled “anti” something or a denier.

In this video, Joe Rogan and Jimmy Dore talk about how you are not allowed to question anything these days, and how everyone is at a fever pitch when it comes to Covid and other societal issues.

As preppers, we hear quite a bit about how knowledge weighs nothing and how your brain is your most important survival tool. In tonight’s show, we are going to talk about mental Fortitude and having a survival mindset. We all prepare because we want to give ourselves the best possible chance to survive any disaster, and preparing mentally is an essential piece of the puzzle.

We’ll also be going over some dystopian fiction movies that have become (or are becoming) fact. As they say “art imitates life” and some of these movies hit really close to home. Towards the end of the show, we will also be talking about what an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) score is, and how it could impact society by magnifying wokisim & cancel culture.

Police Gun Cams

To start the show, we went over a video that illustrates the benefits of a police gun camera. In today’s guilty until proven innocent society having a camera view that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that a shoot was justified could be very beneficial to the police officers involved.

We also talked about some of the tactics this officer used and how training plays a significant role in self-defense. Instead of defunding the police, maybe we work on ways to get them better training. The video below is the police interaction we covered.

Building Mental Fortitude

We don’t think about mental fortitude daily, but it is important in preparedness and life in general. The stronger we are mentally, the easier it will be when life hands us tough times. It will also help us make the correct decisions when we are faced with stressful situations.

In the video, we talked about some ways to forge mental fortitude and become a stronger person. I mentioned a podcast in the show called The Order of Man, which I highly recommend you check out. The video below is also from The Order of Man that goes over some steps to building mental fortitude.

Remember Your Why

What is it that makes us feel the need to prepare? And at what age do we start to realize that life can, and will, throw curveballs at us? In this video, we talk about what has made us preppers, How long of a disaster we should be prepared for, and why most preppers are above the age of 40.

If you are starting with preparedness, this is an excellent conversation to listen to. It shows that while we are all different and have different needs, we also have quite a few similarities.

Fiction Becoming Reality

With all the things that Hollywood gets wrong in movies, they get things right every once in a while. HAL from Space Odessy was a militant Alexa, and Star Trek predicted many technological inventions we use today.

We have done a few reviews of these prepper movies that aren’t really prepper movies on our YouTube channel. Most people don’t think about the movie Demolition Man as a prepper movie, and another is the movie (and book) 1984.

ESG Scores & the Ramifications

In this show, we will be reviewing episode 2 of the show Doomsday Preppers which featured preparing for EMP’s, an Economic Collapse, and a New Madrid Earthquake. We’ll also be going over a great article from Survival Sullivan about preparing for nuclear fallout.

This episode of Doomsday Preppers is one of those episodes that did more harm than good to the prepper community, but there are still lessons to be learned from it. It shows how not everyone has the exact same blueprint for preparedness.

Lessons From the Great Depression

In this show, we will discuss how The Great Depression unfolded and some lessons we can learn from it. Because of the overcomplexity of government, and global interconnectivity, a depression level event could be far worse than it was in the 1930s.

As they say, “The bigger they are, the harder that fall.” Our country has put Band-aids on top of band-aids over the last century and not thoughts about actually solving these economic problems. We have changed from a producer society to a consumer society, and the government is racking up debt at an alarming rate.

As a society, we have lost the skills and self-reliance people had 100 years ago. We depend on other people for our survival, and there would be a steep learning curve for most people in this country if we had to go back to that. This is prepping in a nutshell, learning to live more self reliantly and less dependent on modern conveniences.

Avoiding Cheap Preparedness Supplies

 With all the money we spend on preparedness supplies and gear, it’s impossible not to cut corners here and there. While it’s true that not all your prepping supplies need to be “top of the line,” there are some supplies that absolutely need to be quality-made and tested.

The last thing you want is to find out something is a piece of junk when you need it most. The strap breaking on your bug out bag when you are trying to get home or a knife that breaks when you are trying to start a fire will only increase the stress of an already bad situation.

In the show tonight, we go over a few prepping items that come to mind when thinking about saving money without sacrificing quality. It’s easier said than done sometimes, but it is possible.

History is Seasonal: The 4 Turnings

We have all heard the saying, “If you fail to learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it.” We have probably heard this so many times that it doesn’t hold the weight that it should. History is seasonal, and I believe we are heading into winter if we are not already there.

Nations have risen and fallen throughout the years and, until we (the human race) learn to understand why this happens, we are at some point or another heading towards the same fate.
