All told, roughly 6,000 people lost or left their jobs at licensed #cannabis producers since the end of 2019, representing 30% of some 20,000 positions tracked by MJBizDaily.

When we look at market share trends over the last few years, we notice that market share of Pre-Rolls in Canadian markets is much higher than in US markets.

Over the last year market share of Pre-Rolls in Canada had an average of 18.6%, while in the US, market share of Pre-Rolls was an average of 9.5%.

When we look at market share by individual states and provinces, we see that Pre-Roll market share in Canadian provinces is much higher than in most US states, with Massachusetts as the one exception.

Segment sales share of Pre-Rolls differ significantly between the US and Canada. For example, the second best-selling segment in US markets is the Connoisseur/Infused segment, which makes up 32.4% of sales. But within Canadian markets that same segment makes up only 0.1% of sales.

The number of servings sold, or count of Pre-Rolls per package, is also quite different in the US and Canada. For example, Single Pre-Rolls (1 serving) made up 60% of sales in US markets, but they only made up 11% of sales within Canadian markets.

The highest returning #cannabis sector is Biotech/Pharma which has an estimated 13% gain YTD.

The lowest returning sector is #Hemp with an approximate 45% loss YTD. Sector M&A activity is up sharply 2021 with 31 transactions YTD compared to only 1 in 2020, however, business fundamentals still lag, as #CBD sales in retail have not bounced back to pre-COVID levels.

#AgricultureTechnology is in consolidation mode as evidence by the $653M YTD M&A consideration targeted at the sector but the #stocks have been punished by the slowdown in cultivation impacting several western states including Nevada and California, leading to a 24% YTD loss.

The #Cultivation & Retail is still down by about 7% despite the sharp rally over the last two weeks.

Total capital raised YTD in 2021 is $11.3B, averaging $48.2M with only one debt issue closed for a total proceed of $150 million.

US equity raises are up 109%, and US debt raises are up 7,735% compared to 2018. Canadian raises are off sharply, with equity raises down 75% and debt down 15%.

It's expected that capital raises continue to tilt towards debt issuance. Companies with positive cash flow should take advantage of the solid liquidity and attractive terms offered in the debt market. Companies should willing to trade off a slightly higher coupon for better prepayment terms.

There have been 191 US targeted M&A transactions YTD with a record $8.5 Billion in total consideration. Both transaction numbers and total consideration exceed the values recorded in each of the last two full years.

An important driver of the acceleration we are witnessing in U.S. M&A is the continuing valuation gap we have discussed between the most prominent companies and everyone else. This near-arbitrage makes almost every acquisition by large MSOs accretive on an EBITDA per share basis. The stocks of the big MSOs are down YTD, but their targets are down even more, and the acquisition logic remains intact.
