Loved the podcast this week (as every week actually) particularly the chat about android in cameras. [Ref: Yongnuo YN455]

Reminded me of my beloved and very much missed Samsung galaxy NX Mirrorless camera.

Stupidly I got rid of mine along with a large collection of lenses a few years back and have been trying to buy another ever since.

It ran android, had a sim card slot, variety of lenses and filters and gave some great images.

To this day I believe it is the best incarnation of android and connectivity in a Camera.

If I am lucky enough to get another I would happily send over for review.

Cheap Memory

General consensus on cheaper than reasonable memory from last week is that they are pretty much all fakes and rubbish. You’ll be lucky to get one that works at all - and it certainly won’t be the advertised capacity. You get what you pay for. Ignore fake reviews on Amazon.

I bought an original Dali Katch bluetooth speaker last year after I heard @Ted Salmon enthusing about it on one of the podcasts. I love the quality sound and the ability to drive a Google Chromecast along with the great battery life. Dali just announced the new version, the G2, including a number of improvements - wireless stereo pairing may be the reason that I upgrade. No audio cables and crucially, no power cables stereo set up

If you do get a 1TB Drive Ted you can use Clonezilla. I have used this several times for moving Linux to new drives. It does support Windows 10 too. The only downside is it has so many different options. You need to read the instructions carefully before starting. It's almost impossible to destroy your original drive (unless you try to restore your new blank drive onto your original Windows drive)! It's open source and free.

Jeremy Harpham on Starlink Internet (context: last week’s heat cut-out on dish)

I have a friend who uses this. He lives in Haslemere, Surrey, but he is limited to just variable BT Internet with a max speed of 32Mbps down and 2-3Mbps up. He looked at 5G but not available in his area yet. Starlink costs him approx £90 per month. It delivers speeds consistently in the 80Mbps - 170Mbps range - and this is improving as Starlink adds more satellites. He does get dropouts of 3-6 seconds at times, now and then. The Starlink dish is mounted on his chimney and is slightly bigger than a Sky dish. It is motorised for tracking the satellites and heated to clear snow and ice. He's not had any overheating issues, but could see that might happen on a hot 30C+ day in direct sunlight.

Just listened to my first Tech Addicts podcast and thought I'd chip in with regards to the Chromebook app tray.

I rarely go into mine.

Instead, I press the ‘everything key’ 🔎 and start typing the name of the app and then the app I'm after just appears.

Simple!

You Youngsters Don't Know What Telephones Were Like When I Were a LAD.

I remember phone boxes having Buttons A and B.

You had to insert your coins into the slot and press button A if someone answered that call.

If nobody answered you pressed button B and got your money back.

We used to visit local phone boxes and if you pressed button B you would sometimes get money back when people had forgotten to press it if their call wasn't connected.

Before the arrival of STD codes you would often have to ask the operator to connect to you a number outside your local area.
