  • 047: The Parent's Role in Growth [Interview with Beth Hillman]

In this episode, we talk with Beth about:

    • The role of a parent in their child's learning and growth
    • How to identify your internal triggers to help the family dynamic
    • Why it's so important to learn how to self-regulate

Beth Hillman is the founder of Beth Hillman Coaching. When her fifteen-year-old son went to wilderness, Beth realized he wasn't the only one who needed a major reset. She was a wreck, feeling completely lost and scared, and feeling change for either of them was impossible. Beth's desire to learn better parenting techniques motivated her to become a certified Life Coach, facilitator of Arbinger's Living With an Outward Mindset seminar, and certified Integrative change coach.

The principles and skills learned and applied to her parenting had a massive, life-altering impact on her, her family, and especially her wilder-kid. Beth is living proof that relationships can be rebuilt through the power of self-awareness, emotional accountability, and consistent parenting.

In 2019, she became the Parent Seminar Teacher at a wilderness therapy program. She loved spending time with families in the wilderness, coaching and supporting parents as they were reunited with their teens midway through the program.

Following this beloved stint in the wilderness, she was recruited to become the Parent and Family Program Director at a residential treatment center. While there, she implemented, tested, and improved her original parent coaching program, bringing education, experience, and empathy to even more families.

Beth is passionate about helping parents embody self-awareness, emotional resiliency, relationship accountability, and conscious discipline. She teaches these skills and helps parents apply them to their own situations, bringing hope and possibilities to families through her coaching practice.

  • 045: Unschooling: Letting your WHY Drive Learning [Interview with Robyn Robertson]

In this episode, we talk with Robyn about:

    • The power of unschooling
    • How to connect to your WHY of unschooling
    • What learning looks like when unschooling

Robyn Robertson is an unschooling mom to 2 kids, podcast host of Honey! I'm Homeschooling The Kids, business owner and public school board trustee. Robyn, her husband and their 2 kids started their world-schooling journey in 2012. During this time, Robyn watched curiosity and excitement for life grow in her family. 2 things stood out to her -- she noticed that less time in school did not equal less learning. In fact, learning seemed to be more meaningful outside of school. She also saw their family's bond strengthen. Her experiences traveling while home-educating had Robyn questioning her past beliefs around parenting, how we learn, and the education system. It also highlighted the need for community. This led Robyn to launch her podcast Honey! I'm Homeschooling the Kids, which is a platform to share ideas, stories and information about the joys and challenges of home education and self directed learning. The podcast also serves as a place to bring together a collective voice for change in the broader education system. Today, Robyn advocates politically for home education and self-directed learning. With her experience and Trustee position she bridges the gaps between the homeschool community and local educators. She combines that experience, knowledge and curiosity in her mentoring, working with families to help them envision and create their own unique learning paths.

You can find her through her website, podcast, in her Community~Honey I'm Homeschooling on the Clubhouse app or on Facebook and Instagram @Honey! I'm Homeschooling The Kids.

She is co-hosting a summit on March 24 called "How to be an Awesome Homeschooler". You can register to attend here: https://howtobeanawesomehomeschooler.com/
