Trey Wren joins us this week to talk about his insanely busy year in 2023. 

Trey was a collegiate golfer at Temple University who, after turning pro, shortly diverted to starting his media company Sticks Golf - named after the folks who can play hard, have a well rounded knowledge of the game, and are always curious about it. 

In this episode we cover his background as a competitive player, the steps taken to begin his creative work, and what he’s learned at High Pointe. 

There is a ton of interest on High Pointe - Tom Doak's first design and current re-design, and this should provide an inside look into the project and the people responsible for it.

Rollback, wow, it's here. While I don't believe it's nearly as big of a thing as many people are thinking it is, we have finally arrived at some sort of a show of hand from the USGA on where we are headed with this whole debate about distance and the golf ball and what the next number of years will look like.

While this is an important step, at the end of the day it feels more like a PR play than a significant change to how the game will actually look over the next few years. Only time will tell, and it's nice to know we are moving somewhere!

Heeeeee's BAAAAACK!!!!! What a wonderful week it was to once again get to see Eldrick Tont (Tiger) Woods compete once again.

As a massive Tiger fan, I find myself genuinely appreciative of him every time he does this as it is so enjoyable for those of us who grew up firmly in the Tiger era to get to watch our man peg it. Each time he does, it's one step closer to the days that it just won't work anymore, so we need to really enjoy each of these as they come.

But before we start worrying too much about the end of the Cat's ninth life, let's focus on what this week looked like and what he has ahead of him. Today we will be focused on what we liked about his game this week. Where we just aren't seeing it anymore, what the year ahead may look like, and where he may shake out with each of the majors.

I found this conversation super interesting from a standpoint of what it means to procure a valuable item, what drives value and makes people want something in golf or other sports, and the things they can do as an auction house to drive value of an item. There are so many things to think through when it comes not only to what makes an item valuable, but also how to treat a valuable item. Million dollar items don't get sent by UPS!

Benjamin Warren is a golf course shaper and designer based out of North Berwick, Scotland and is currently running Artisan Golf Design, traveling to Japan, Minnesota, and South Carolina over the last few months!

We spend a great deal of time today talking about Barrier Free Golf and Benjamin's involvement with The Loop at Chaska- a 10 hole short course to benefit people with disabilities, veterans, juniors, and beginners of all ages access to fun (and environmentally friendly) golf.

So, what is the difference between routing and ordering?

Well, the routing of a golf course is how the 18 total holes traverse a property and make their way from beginning to end. This requires someone who knows a ton about land movement, dirt, water movement, and all of the important things that a golf course architect brings to the table to help someone get the best golf course on a property.

The ordering of the holes is a little different. Once a routing and golf course is in play, you could play it 1 to 18, or you could play it 7 back around to 8. Like a good movie or book, a golf course should and does develop in a logical plot or order and the order in which you play the holes is crucial. Imagine Augusta's last 6 holes not being the last 6 but rather finishing on say the 4th hole. The way that round builds to create drama would not be the same.

Christian Cavaliere finished up at Boston College in the spring of 2020 (prematurely thanks to Covid) and was initially planning on a grad year at Notre Dame. Well, a budding side hustle in the hard goods industry turned into a full time business now known as Tremont Sporting Co. and with the pandemic lagging on, he decided to forego that extra year with the Irish and go all in on hats, apparel, and leather goods.

Fast forward to today and Tremont is doing great, as is Christian's golf game. While it is merely a side hustle at this point, Christian ended up qualifying for this year's US Open and competing at LACC, Cherry Hills for the US Amateur, and Sleepy Hollow for the US Mid Am. Not bad for something that is merely a passion.
