Whether it is a signed flag, green jacket, Scotty Cameron putter, or something else in the golf collectibles world, these are the guys who sell the coolest items out there.

I found this conversation super interesting from a standpoint of what it means to procure a valuable item, what drives value and makes people want something in golf or other sports, and the things they can do as an auction house to drive value of an item. There are so many things to think through when it comes not only to what makes an item valuable, but also how to treat a valuable item. Million dollar items don't get sent by UPS!

So, what is the difference between routing and ordering?

Well, the routing of a golf course is how the 18 total holes traverse a property and make their way from beginning to end. This requires someone who knows a ton about land movement, dirt, water movement, and all of the important things that a golf course architect brings to the table to help someone get the best golf course on a property.

The ordering of the holes is a little different. Once a routing and golf course is in play, you could play it 1 to 18, or you could play it 7 back around to 8. Like a good movie or book, a golf course should and does develop in a logical plot or order and the order in which you play the holes is crucial. Imagine Augusta's last 6 holes not being the last 6 but rather finishing on say the 4th hole. The way that round builds to create drama would not be the same.

Christian Cavaliere finished up at Boston College in the spring of 2020 (prematurely thanks to Covid) and was initially planning on a grad year at Notre Dame. Well, a budding side hustle in the hard goods industry turned into a full time business now known as Tremont Sporting Co. and with the pandemic lagging on, he decided to forego that extra year with the Irish and go all in on hats, apparel, and leather goods.

Fast forward to today and Tremont is doing great, as is Christian's golf game. While it is merely a side hustle at this point, Christian ended up qualifying for this year's US Open and competing at LACC, Cherry Hills for the US Amateur, and Sleepy Hollow for the US Mid Am. Not bad for something that is merely a passion.

Jay Blasi has worked on multiple great projects in the world of golf course architecture. Chambers Bay, Santa Ana CC, and Stanford's Practice Facility, to name just a few. A voyage to the lone star state and Houston more specifically was a new journey for Jay but one that for my money he has aced.

Lakeside CC is a 1952 Ralph Plummer original and was in need of a new look prior to Jay's work. The new rendition of Lakeside will feature more strategic intrigue, shortgrass, firm and fast playing conditions, and a convergence in difficulty between good and bad players. Taking inspiration from CC of Charleston and Yeamans Hall in Charleston, SC, Jay has implemented multiple template holes into the new version of Lakeside CC as well which I believe will be well received by membership.

Both Henry and Walker had the chance to sit down with Jay during this podcast which made for a fun two part interview. We will have a lot more content coming on Lakeside CC so keep your eyes peeled on the social links below for more!
