Whatever you want to call them, every state has their own tales of Bigfoot-like creatures. Illinois is no different.

The Algonquian speaking tribes who settled in present day Illinois like the Shawnee, Kickapoo, Illiniwek, and Menominee, have a name for the legendary flying beasts who wreak havoc on their lands. 

They call them Thunderbirds.
