Today we have a stellar episode for you. We are interviewing Catherine Powers and Jake Brown. These two have co-authored a book and been instrumental in the writing of a screen play and putting together a soundtrack focusing on the life and times of legendary musician and songwriter, Freddy Powers. The book is called The Spree of ’83 – The Life and Times of Freddy Powers.
Freddy is most well known for penning songs with, for and playing alongside Merle Haggard for decades. But, there’s a lot more to Freddy’s life and story that you’ll hear during this interview. I was absolutely in awe of some of the stories about Freddy that you’re about to hear Catherine and Jake tell.
For our die-hard Red Dirt fans, you should be familiar with one of Freddy’s hits called “Natural High” that Stoney LaRue often covers and that my fiddle playing buddy, Jeremy Watkins absolutely kills on, whenever he sings it.
The book, audiobook, and soundtrack can all be found simply by googling it, but you can also go to www.jakebrownbooks.com to get more info.
I’ll also have the pre-order link in the show notes for this episode.

Welcome to episode #121 of The Troubadour.
You are about to listen to what could quite possibly be my favorite episode Carly and I have recorded so far. On today’s show we get to visit with hit songwriter and flat out, just a wonderful human being, Leslie Satcher.
Leslie has many cuts to her name and every time I’m performing, I cover one of her big hits simply because I feel like the song was written for me. But it wasn’t! It was written for anybody who feels like they are coming from somewhere, going somewhere and have more to give. Her song “Troubadour” was a huge hit for George Strait and still moves me every single time I hear or play it.
But, it doesn’t really stop there; another song of Leslie’s that was a big hit was Martina McBride’s single, “When God Fearing Women Get the Blues.”
Lately Leslie and her husband David, along with writers for their publishing company have been producing a great new podcast as well called PodPlays. I’ll let Leslie describe to you the cool concept of what her and David are doing with PodPlays and I’d suggest you listen to an episode or two yourselves. I’m sure you’ll then be hooked just like I was. Click this LINK to check it out!!!
This was simply a great conversation with Leslie so I’ll stop rambling in this intro and just let you all hear it for yourselves.

Welcome to episode #120 of The Troubadour.
Randy C. Moore is today’s guest and you’re about to listen to a really great episode!
Randy is a native of Humble, TX and is a musician and songwriter who has got to do something that not many musicians in this world have ever gotten to do: co-write with music legend Carl Perkins and call him a friend. For those of you unaware, Carl was the guy who wrote the Elvis Presley hit “Blue Suede Shoes”.
Along with stories about Randy and Carl that you’re about to hear, we’ll also be talking to Randy about his career as a songwriter and musician and his advice for others to only get in the music business if you truly love it.
In this interview Randy also tells a really cool story about a recording session at the Legendary Sun Studios in Nashville when they potentially had a legendary ghost right there with them on the session!

Welcome to episode #119 of The Troubadour.
Holy cow folks, this was a fun episode for me! I get to geek about a bit on this show with musician, author and entrepreneur Corey Durkin.
Corey fronts the Fast River Band and they probably are a little outside the genre of Red Dirt and Texas Country that is usually our wheelhouse on the podcast. However, as you’ll hear, there’s another reason why I talked Corey into coming onto the show and I think any up and coming artists will get a lot of great hints and advice in this episode from Corey on how to manage their business and career.

Today’s guest is a consummate musician who can basically play any instrument with strings, AND play them well.
Native Oklahoman Travis Linville’s fascination with music started at an early age and his continuous learning and perfection of his craft has made him one of the most respected musicians to ever be a part of the Red Dirt/Texas Country/American Scene.
He’s spent time fronting his own bands as well as being a hired gun for artists like Hayes Carll, Todd Snider and Marty Stuart.
Linville’s new album, I’m Still Here, is a great collection of songs that should soon become a part of your own collection. In the interview you’ll hear just how this record came to be with Travis working alongside fellow Oklahoman, and monster musician in his own right, J.D. McPherson.

Welcome to episode #113 of The Troubadour.
We’ve got a great episode for you today with Bart Crow.
Born and raised in Maypearl, Texas, country music singer/songwriter Bart Crow made his first attempts to write songs while in the United States Army and started first performing live while studying at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX.
With a sound all his own, Crow produces an ever-evolving flow of Red Dirt, Texas Country and Americana music. Crow has put together an impressive track record as a recording artist, having lofted six No. 1 singles onto the Texas Music Chart – one of which, “Wear My Ring,” sold over 165,000 copies. He has sold over 40,000 albums, released eight self-co-produced records in just over a decade, including Dandelion, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers South Central chart. He’s been cheered in Country Weekly, on CMT, and has been named one of Rolling Stones “artists you need to know”.
Crow is also a dedicated husband and father with a passion for supporting our nation’s Veterans. “Being a Veteran I will always pay homage to our brothers and sisters who heed the call to volunteer and preserve our peace and freedom,” says Crow. He displays this sentiment in his self-penned song “Broken” from album “Heartworn Tragedy”.
Bart Crow has partnered with True Grit Talent Agency. The True Grit roster includes Cody Jinks, Sunny Sweeney, Whitey Morgan, Ward Davis & many more noteworthy acts.
With tours booked across the country and many more dates to be released along the way. Crow’s latest release, “I’m Not Finished,” caught much attention throughout the music scene, with new music on the way.
