Welcome back to The Grind, this week the boys are unsupervised again, which leads to some filter-less philosophizing and some brilliant nuggets of insight.
"A goal asks, what do I want? A theme asks, who am I as a person?"
This week starts off with the guys discussing work life balance, Joey bring up some problems he sees with the culture and Jason talks about how most people should probably take more time for themselves away from work. It's the time of year for goal setting and in that vein Joey and Jason debate the proper way to orient your life goals. Joey presents the idea of outcomes vs identity and Jason describes the importance of asking yourself the right questions from the outset. The guys then throw out some useful tips for setting more appropriate goals, like setting end times and making them more family-centric. Joey then goes deeper into themes vs goals and why one is more conducive to success.
"Don't chase happiness, choose happiness."
The next topic Joey and Jason discuss is about the real-world tangibility of your targets and why being able to tear yourself away from work when you planned to, is a great ability to develop. The guys unpack how social media and modern technology has made this more difficult because of the constantly connected culture it's associated with. Joey and Jason find that the themes that they were previously discussing could be a productive methodology for addressing problems like overuse of social media. Another recurring theme of the grind is not obsessing over your goals, this week Joey talks about it in terms of choosing happiness and seeing it as a decision instead of a goal. Jason talks about how this can help alleviate problems with letting work overtake your personal life.
The guys discuss priorities further and how proper prioritization can even make you a better person, as well as assist your professional life. Jason talks about how this ties in to personal alignment and the guys go over some preferable example themes to base your goals around. After a little conclusive discussion Jason and Joey sign off. until next week, Grind on.

Welcome back to another episode of the Grind. This episode is a Joey and Jason special, no guest, just Jason fresh off his excursion to 'soul degree' and Joey eager to pick his brain about the experience. The guys start off discussing how effective a simple change can be at cascading positive change throughout your life. Jason talks about his need to decrease his tech usage and desire to go deeper in self-analysis. In that vein, Jason begins to breakdown his own psychology, in an attempt to pinpoint some things he can change. After Jason unpacks some of the aspects of his life he is unhappy with, Joey provides some feedback and reassurance and the guys talk about how these issues affect a lot of people. Joey talks about how important it is to tackle these problems step by step, as to prevent being overwhelmed, then Jason and Joey debate how much responsibility it is necessary to assume to effectively solve these problems.
Continuing the psychological exploration Jason discusses how you need to have emotional maturity to solve personal issues, but most people don't attain the necessary maturity until later in life, when it is harder to fix patterns of behaviour. Jason talks about patience and how it proliferates all aspects of self-improvement, he also touches upon how important alignment is in life in general. The guys then move on to discussing authenticity and not wearing a mask. Forced venerability can be a useful tool and Joey gives us some examples of good ways to harness it.
"Think about it like your Nintendo days, you're levelling up"
Joey has a realisation and comes up with an analogy for personal growth based on video games, He explains the parallels and the guys explore the idea of looking at your life as a video game character. This metaphor is useful on many levels and can help compartmentalise problems and make them easier to deal with. Joey doesn't want to end the show but cruel father time forces a conclusion. Till next week stay 'aligned and grinding'.

Welcome back to The Grind, this episode features an interview with Paresh Shah Near-futurist, Strategist, Speaker and Yogi. Currently, Paresh is Chief Strategist and Value Architect at The Non-Obvious Company, a global innovation, strategy, mindfulness and leadership consultancy. Before the interview, Joey and Jason discuss some of their recent real-estate endeavours, where they are finding success at the moment and they talk a bit about their unconventional love of phone prospecting. They guys hit full flow state before Jason remembers they are recording a podcast and have an interview to get to.
After a brief introduction the guys get straight into the interview. Joey initially attempts to hone in on Paresh's definition of a 'Lifter', Paresh extrapolates on that and talks about the generational mindset shift we are in the midst of and the impacts of it. This leads to a discussion about how humans categorize people, Paresh's main goal of raising mass consciousness and how 'Lifters' contribute to that. Joey Brings up some points from Paresh's TED talk and Paresh explores some ideas about the evolution of consciousness. Jason builds upon the importance of surrounding yourself with positive people and asks Paresh about the differentiation he finds between national barriers and consciousness.
"The universe gives us contrast and as an individual you can't get stuck in the middle".
The guys move on to a discussion about the technology revolution and how it reflects the revolution in consciousness we are currently undergoing. Paresh also delves into the binary nature of reality and people's inability to cope with change. The conversation then shifts from macro to micro as Joey puts some hypothetical real-life situations to Paresh to see how he approaches them within his methodology. In unpacking that Paresh tackles fear, excitement, self-control and self-alignment. He then explains his '4 Mind Shifts', steps that he believes are crucial to a positive transformation. The guys all give their conclusions and Paresh leaves us with a final thought before they sign off concluding another great Grind episode.

This episode of The Grind features an interview Don MacPherson former Head of Global Marketing at Aon and founder of 12 Geniuses. 12 Geniuses helps leaders around the world understand how the workplace is changing so they can disrupt and not be disrupted. They also have a great podcast.
"What you focus on expands"
To start this episode Joey and Jason talk about one of Joeys favourite quotes, action vs inaction and how one simple connection can change your life. The guys discuss their goals, recent episodes and why they enjoy making the podcast, before introducing the interview with Don.
The guys begin by picking Don's brain about his early career, development and how travelling and experiencing other cultures expanded his horizons and effectively functioned as a teacher in his life. Joey relates this to some of his own experiences from his time in the military and Jason brings up responsibility and how it relates to some of Nova Whitman's ideas. In reference to this, the guys ask Don about how he finds living in a 1202 square foot condo.
"Am I going to have a good day? Or am I going to have a bad day?"
In the next section, Don talks about the pursuit of happiness and how to approach it healthily. Joey drops some knowledge on awareness before telling Don about a phrase he heard him use that he now uses all the time. Don then talks about his friend and CEO Doug Lennick and the book 'Man's search for meaning' by Victor Frankl. Then the guys discuss recognition and gratitude, how these are some of your best tools as a leader and some examples of how to implement them.
Joey Jason and Don move on to a discussion about social media and depth in relationships, then Joey talks a bit about 'Dig your well before you're thirsty' by Harvey Mackay and the discussion transitions to difficulties you can encounter attempting deeper emotional connections. Don and the guys then finish up this topic talking about the importance of not ignoring the people already close to you.
Joey and Jason then invite Don to go in depth on the trends he sees in tech at the moment, how 12 Geniuses is tackling those and what he sees in the near future. This covers topics like 3D printing, biotech, the internet of things and AI. The discussion veers towards the possibility of a 'Skynet' scenario and the trade-offs between advances in tech and personal sacrifices. Don then fills us in on what he is up to at the moment and what to look out for before the guys conclude the episode and sign off. Grind Out!
