"You don't have anything to lose…apart from your house and kids".
Welcome back to The Grind. This week's intro see's Jason displaying his talent for radio voice and telling a story about a specific recurring goal that keeps rearing its head whenever Jason sets out his future aims. Jason talks about how his realisation of this has bought clarity to his life plans, this leads Joey to bring up some of Tim Ferris's ideas about work life balance and how you can achieve a healthy equilibrium. Also, before the interview the guys talk about setting appropriate goals and whether it is better to set achievable goals or deliberately set them too high.
"There is nothing that's just business, you might as well say I don't care".
Scott Beebe is a business coach, trainer, and strategist who works with groups around the world with his company Business on Purpose. The interview with Scott starts with a discussion about separation of work and life being a delusion and how true freedom only comes from within a framework of boundaries. Joey bring up an analogous anecdote with his marathon training, where he didn't consider himself a runner when he started but as he attained proficiency he gained freedom to run further. Scott then explains some misconceptions about some people in the business world and how a lot of people who describe themselves as 'crushing it' are actually in the process of being crushed. The guys then stress the importance of re-affirming your goals on a regular basis.
"Write the vision down so that those who read it may run".
Scott brings up a few reasons why you should constantly evangelise your vision (in whatever walk of life) so those around you can feel oriented. He also explains why profit with no direction is chaos, and why although you cannot entirely divorce emotion from business, it is helpful to try in certain situations. Joey uses this context to explain why clarity should be in the forefront of your mind before making any business decisions. In unpacking the previous topic Scott expands on his methodology when it comes to delegation and why it is so important to execute it properly. Scott then goes in depth on his philosophy behind building a cohesive foundation for any company, and how to make it long lasting by using principle instead of strategy. Unable to cover al of the points in one episode Scott squeezes a lot into the last 20 minutes, including some really useful strategic specifics, but will probably be back on the show in the future to drop more nuggets of business expertise.
Scott Beebe is the Founder and Head Coach of MyBusinessOnPurpose.com, and the host of the Business On Purpose podcast. He liberates Small Business owners from the chaos of working IN their business and helps to get their lives back by articulating and implementing intentional Vision/Mission/Values, Systems, and Processes.

"Your programming leads to your thoughts, thoughts lead to your feelings, feelings lead to your actions and actions lead to results".
Welcome back to another episode of The Grind. Jason and Joey start the episode reflecting on last week's discussion and Jason opening up to the audience. The guys talk a bit about the importance of critiquing yourself, not getting comfortable with your perspective and constantly trying to broaden it. Joeys unpacks that further by expanding on his definition of awareness and speaking about why you should reach for joy in your everyday life. The guys then discuss why you should start at the foundations when building on your philosophy and how the interconnected nature of becoming more positive allows for exponential growth when executed properly. Joey relates this to the real estate industry, he asks the question "I this a science"? and Jason postulates on why emotional feedback can't be quantified.
"Donate to something….and DON'T take credit for it"
Jason takes the subjects previously discussed and talks about them in terms of leadership and inspiration, how to make practical progress based of those methods. Joey adds another brick to the foundational philosophy they have been discussing with the value of gratitude and operating with no expectations. Then the guys get into the meat of the episode, selflessness. The emphasis is on how you can pragmatically implement various methodologies across your life. sometimes the vague axiomatic language used in these discussions make the ideas difficult to execute in a concrete way. Joey and Jason talk about the Psychological rewards that you might be missing that help you keep going, and why you might not think you have to change your mindset, but you probably do. As always the guys drop some salient anecdotes to back up their points.
"Is today going to be a good day, or a great day".
Joey and Jason discuss some further techniques for changing your outlook and also give some reasons why you should be intolerant of mediocrity. Joey talks about his dislike for self-obsessed behaviour and the ways you can spot symptoms of that mindset. He's on such a roll Joey almost doesn't stop this episode, but Jason manages to lasso him in. Before signing off the guys talk about helpsteveandjill.com and their friends battles with ALS. Check out the website and donate. Grind out.

"If not now when? and if not us then who?"
Welcome back to The Grind, and another Joey and Jason special. The episode starts with Joey extolling the virtues of juicing and Jason talking about a neuro-supplement he is trying out. The topic of trying new things leads to an in-depth discussion about excess and how to manage excess with sometimes counter-intuitive techniques. Annie Grace is mentioned with some of her philosophy on the subject in mind and the guys talk about moderation and reaching 100 percent by aiming for 80 or 90.
"Every leader thinks about throwing in the towel at some point"
The next segment starts with a discussion Joey's upcoming coaching skills camp, accountability and coaching in general. Drawing from their military experience the guys talk about how a lot of people in leadership positions don't realise it until they have left the position. Jason describes some of the qualities that a leader should embody, primarily perseverance and an ability to change with your environment. Joey adds some insight about investing in yourself and improving your skills through instructional programs and mentoring. The guys then delve deep into an exposition on the nuance of leadership.
"I've grown more in the last year and a half than my first thirty-seven"
Jason begins the next section discussing 'BOLD' a programme at Keller Williams, of which Jason is a 3-tour veteran. This session however was more impactful than his previous attendances, which the guys attribute to his repeated attempts finally paying off. Staying away from spoiler territory, Jason reached some important realisations during the session that he attempts to unpack for the audience. Jason describes some axiomatic points he has gleamed from pondering on the subject and Joey talks about most people's inclination to laziness and procrastination. For the final section of this episode Jason and Joey explore the pain that inevitably accompanies personal growth and the fact that the fear of that pain alone is what stops most people from attempting growth in the first place. Also…. unicorn serial is a thing now apparently, Grind On.

This episode starts in traditional Grind fashion with Joey and Jason talking about their current adventures and giving a recap off last week's episode, with some 90's references thrown in for good measure. They also talk about Dan's thoughts on leadership and how he made Joey want to get his s**t together. Before this week's interview Joey and Jason briefly discuss their tendency to constantly compare themselves to other people, and how sometimes that's all it takes to be in the 'mental rat race'.
"Ideas matter, and you have to have an idea of what's going on in the world"
This week's guest is Matt Johnson partner in Elite Real Estate Systems / founder of Pursuing Results, a podcast PR + production firm, and the boys waste no time jumping in the deep end, asking Matt how an entrepreneur can keep their sanity whilst maintaining efficiency. Matt deliberates of the issue of prioritisation and not spreading yourself to thin, you only have so much focus and you must use it properly. That starts with figuring out what's worth spending your energy on. Matt then moves on to talking about dealing with your inevitable inability to achieve this perfectly and how to approach decision making in that context. Joey discusses the idea that perseverance and dogged belligerence can get you to a successful place, no matter what you are doing. Matt disagrees and sights the example of Kodak in the 90's, which leads the guys to discuss adaptability in different sectors of business.
"The podcast does three things for you, it's authority, visibility and relationships".
The next section of the discussion starts with Matt talking about how to diversify your business whilst maintaining existing revenue streams. The key when attacking multiple projects is to find an aspect you can focus on that helps multiple fronts, Matt explains some of the difficulties you can encounter on this path. Jason then mentions how their podcast and their real estate businesses seem totally incapable of synergy and Matt describes why he thinks that it is impossible for that to be the case. Joey agrees with Matt and talks about why the Grind has already helped other aspects of his professional life. Matt then discusses how day to day running of businesses has become exponentially easier over the last decade allowing for CEO's and managers to focus on entrepreneurial pursuits. The last chunk of discussion is Matt explaining his methodology for entrepreneurship and how to run multiple businesses effectively. His systems-based approach has Jason and Joey excited to adapt their own methods, and like Joey say's at the end of the episode, "That was some juicy stuff".

This episode of the grind features guest Dan Waldschmidt, founder of the Edgy empire. Dan Waldschmidt doesn't just talk about success. He's obsessed with it. As a champion ultra-runner and elite strategist to business leaders across the world, Dan pushes the limits of high performance in everything that he does. Whether it is helping a Fortune 100 business grow an emerging business unit by 1,000% year-over-year or showing a new work-from-home entrepreneur how to drive radical progress with limited resources — Dan uses every ounce of his energy to build winners.
"The single most demotivating thing for high performers is being around people who are not like them".
Joey and Jason give a short intro before the interview, but the guys waste no time jumping into it. The first topic of discussion is accountability. Dan talks about the hiring process and how accountability must start there, the importance of creating an ethos that people can work to and the advantages of weeding out people who can't keep up or stick to that ethos. Jason poses a question about the extent to which leaders apologise for their success and how to push back against the desire to capitulate. Dan bring it back to accountability and the importance of creating the right team from the start. Joey asks about whether it is the right choice to try and change a problematic team member, or whether it would be better to cut your losses and purge team members who cannot reach parity with the team. Dan covers a range of approaches when extrapolating on this topic.
The guys talk a bit more about methods of seeking out high performance individuals and then Dan describes the sense of destiny he looks for in his desired team members. He talks about his reasons for placing such significance on it and the way he broaches the topic with new team members. Dan also delves into some of the other intense interview techniques he used to sort the wheat from the chaff. Afterwards the guys discuss Dan's book, Edgy nation and his future literary endeavours. The guys pick Dan's brain about networking and how to connect with other high-performance individuals, and Jason picks his brain about books he is currently reading and which ones he would recommend. To finish up Jason asks Dan about the hardest challenge he currently faces and the objectives he is prioritising.
