Flow is an altered state of mind, being “in the zone”, experiencing timelessness, selflessness, and feeling connected. Everything seems effortless. Your creativity and productivity increases in this state, your focus increases you have more clarity and feel ecstatic. Instead of using your brain, you actually use less of it. You are 100% immersed in what you are doing.
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi coined the term in 1975 and it has been widely referred to across a variety of fields.
It’s a Zen-type attitude about it of being one with your activity, where your inner critic disappears.
Alexandra experiences this when she rides her horse and I do the same when I go kiteboarding. But how can you achieve the same state of flow into your work environment?
Listen to the podcast episode and learn how to sync your body and mind, achieve flow and use it to become better at what you do in life and in work.

In this episode, we talk about living a life based on your values. When Chip flatlined he decided he needed to change his life. This led to the founding of Modern Elder Academy.
"If you don't like change, you'll like irrelevancy even better" says Chip Conley, founder of Modern Elder Academy.
Rebel hospitality entrepreneur and New York Times bestselling author, Chip Conley is a leader at the forefront of the sharing economy. At age 26 he founded Joie de Vivre Hospitality (JdV), transforming one inner-city motel into the second largest boutique hotel brand in America. After running his company as CEO for 24 years, he sold it and soon the young founders of Airbnb asked him to help transform their promising start-up into the world’s leading hospitality brand. Chip served as Airbnb’s Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy for four years and today acts as the company’s Strategic Advisor for Hospitality and Leadership.
Chip’s five books include PEAK and EMOTIONAL EQUATIONS and are inspired by the theories of transformation and meaning by famed psychologists Abraham Maslow and Viktor Frankl. In his new book, WISDOM@WORK: The Making of a Modern Elder (September 2018), Chip shares his experiences – as both mentor and unexpected intern – at Airbnb, and why he believes the intergenerational exchange of wisdom is critical to the modern workplace and our society.
Chip is the founder of Modern Elder Academy in Baja California Sur.

I had the pleasure to interview Carl Honore. Carl has been known as:
"The global guru on the Slow Movement."
- Globe and Mail
"An in-demand spokesman on slowness."
The Wall Street Journal
"The godfather of the Slow Movement."
ABC TV News
In addition, he’s just a really awesome human being.
Carl Honoré is an award-winning writer, broadcaster and TED speaker. As the voice of the Slow Movement, he travels the world to teach people how to thrive in a fast world – by slowing down.
Carl has been featured in a series for BBC Radio 4 called The Slow Coach in which he helped frazzled, over-scheduled Britons slow down. He presented a TV show (ABC 1) called Frantic Family Rescue where he did the same for families in Australia. His TED talk on the benefits of slowing down has been viewed 2.8 million times.
Before spearheading the Slow Movement, Carl spent a decade working as a journalist. He covered Europe and South America for the Economist, Observer, Miami Herald, Houston Chronicle, Time, National Post and other publications.
His first book, In Praise of Slow, examines our compulsion to hurry and chronicles a global trend toward putting on the brakes. The Financial Times said it is “to the Slow Movement what Das Kapital is to communism.”
Carl has written 4 books so far and has presented two Ted talks.
His first book, In Praise of Slow, examines our compulsion to hurry and chronicles a global trend toward putting on the brakes. The Financial Times said it is “to the Slow Movement what Das Kapital is to communism.”
His second book, Under Pressure, explores the good, the bad and the ugly of modern childrearing – and offers a blueprint for change. It was hailed by Time as a “gospel of the Slow Parenting movement.”
Carl’s third book, The Slow Fix, explores how to tackle complex problems in every walk of life, from health and relationships to business and politics, without falling for superficial, short-term quick fixes.
Carl’s latest book, Bolder: Making The Most Of Our Longer Lives, is about ageing – how we can do it better and feel better about doing it. It’s also a rallying cry against the last form of discrimination that dare speak its name: ageism.

And most importantly, remember to Slow Down.
Alenka is hard core. She traveled on her bike from her Lake Tahoe home to her Baja home alone. Leaving behind her business Tahoe Teas, her husband and her dog, Alenka defeated her fears and connected deeply with herself. What revealed in this journey for her is a lot more than self confidence and fulfilling her dreams. Alenka is an inspiration for people and I loved interviewing her.

I hired Kathleen a few years back to help me find my authentic style but also help me minimize the time it took me in the morning to dress up. What happened after that is amazing. It completely transformed my life. I went on a journey of simplifying and minimizing my life and ultimately started Unhustle. This very first simple act of going through my wardrobe ended up in so much more in life.
