There's a quote that's been around on the internet for a while that I really like: On particularly rough days when I’m sure I can’t possibly endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad rough days so far is 100%…and that’s pretty good.
I think this is important to remember. When we're in the thick of hard things, it's easy to forget that tomorrow is coming. But understanding this concept of Strength For Today is something that helps me.

Today we're talking about the Outward Expressions Of You Inside. The ideas I want to share have been marinating and simmering around my head for a while. There are a lot of layers to the topic so just like in the classic movie Shrek, we'll peel our way to the center like an onion. That's all the cooking/food metaphors for this episode, I promise.
To kick this off I want to focus on the fact that almost everything in our lives is a reflection of our thoughts, beliefs, and inner well-being. The truth is that we literally create the world around us and although there are many outside circumstances that we can't control, we have command over much more than we sometimes realize. And taking a good look at the outward expressions in our lives gives us a glimpse of what is happening inside. Then we can truly be mindful and make any changes as needed.

You know, there are a few mottos that I've adopted in my thirty-five years. Obviously, to Live The Vibrant Life is right at the top of the list. Another one is Be Not Weary In Well Doing which has seen me through many hard days. But today, we're covering another principle that has truly changed my life. It's something that I've strived to practice in my day to day for a long time now, and that is Never Suppress A Generous Thought.

Like anything, the closer you look, the more you learn. There are a bunch of things Mary Poppins teaches, but the lesson I want to focus on today comes from the "Spoonful of Sugar" song. To quote the classy character, "In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and snap, the job's a game." This is one of the truest tricks of a vibrant life, guys. If you choose to focus on the positive and find the fun during the difficult things, life goes much more smoothly.Support the show

If when I say "Wabi Sabi" you are picturing the spicy green stuff that comes with your sushi, that's not quite right. That's Wasabi. I like sushi, but wasabi isn't really my thing. But Wabi Sabi is definitely something I can get down with. In simple terms, Wabi Sabi is the art of embracing and appreciating imperfection. (I've included a couple of insightful videos from youtube in the show notes if you want to check those out.)

Here's the truth: every single human on the planet is creative. We just have different ways of showing it. Have you ever heard the expression that someone (maybe even you) is not the brightest crayon in the box? That can be a reference to intelligence, but it also has artistic tones. If you are thinking that you're a dull crayon then this episode is for you.

I'm doing very well, but I'm not going to lie. The last few months have been trying for me. I've been working hard to believe in myself and my goals. This podcast is a product of those efforts. But I've also been feeling the tension between who I am and who I want to be. And then there are those pesky demons of doubt that love to swoop in and stop us in our tracks, sort of like the Wrackspurts in Harry Potter. Wrackspurts are invisible beings that get into your brain leaving you confused and unable to focus. I guess J.K. Rowling knew what she was writing about. So today, we're going to be discussing resistance.

Humans have a deep sense of what is true and what is not true. When we hear something that is true, our first response is an inward yes. Think of the spark of light that comes into someone's countenance as they understand a new concept. It could be a math principle, spiritual knowledge, or anything in between. But that light that comes into a person's eyes is the soul saying yes.

Today we're talking about Prospering By Degrees. This is something that I've thought a lot about over a long period of time. I've contemplated the nature of growth and achievement and what it means to become a higher version of yourself. What is required to level up in life?
The truth is that personal development is a process. It doesn't happen instantaneously. If you look at any big success or achievement you can break it down into building blocks of ideas and actions. These ideas and actions grow in fascinating ways and compound exponentially. Sometimes the growth is rapid because the excitement and energy behind the effort are massive. Other times things take longer to develop. But the timeframe is not necessarily as important as the process or model it takes to get where you want to go.
