Phakamile Hlubi is the National Spokesperson for the largest trade union in the country, the National Union of Metalworkers of South
Africa (NUMSA). She is also serves as the chairperson of the board of Tricontinental Institute for Social Research.
She was born and bred in Soweto and she attended Wits university and served on the SRC as Education Officer (2000-2001), where she fought the administration for academically and financially excluded students to be re-admitted.

In reality, even someone who decides to partake in physical activity that’s a bit demanding can suffer from a sports injury.

In March 2021, after the passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini, we spoke to Andile Zulu about the relevance of Monarchs in democratic societies in Africa. Though Kepas Melodi’s farming enterprise started off small, it has since grown into a sizeable operation that has seen him operate from communal land, based in Hazyview and employ nine people full-time. He’s also managed a partnership with a major retailer and learnt valuable lessons.
He started farming in 2003 when he identified a shortage of fresh spinach produce in the fresh produce market in Hazyview, where he worked at the time. His is a story that may motivate other would-be farmers and entrepreneurs.

The advent of the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to light the need to re-evaluate how we organise for work, when and how we deliver work, and the physical environment in which we work. Government has provided guidelines for social distancing and other measures in the effort to reduce infections.
