  • Ethical practice in the estate agency sector
Like any other sector within the economy of South Africa, the real estate and property sector is constantly challenged and it always emerges that issues around ethics and credibility are intertwined, thus affecting business confidence.

Founder and Principal at real estate agency Snooks Estates, Matseleng Mogodi says she has found that real estate agencies continue to face challenges of ethics and credibility. Her main concern is the practice of real estate agents who elicit and syphon their own deals using the agencies’ name. She argues that this brings the real estate agency to its knees from a business sustainability point of view and often causes severe reputational damage amongst stakeholders which includes clients who receive the negative end of the stick.

  • #BusinessOnWednesday: Your business venture has failed – is quitting an option?
Today is the last day of the 1st quarter of 2021. A year ago, things started going south for many businesses and when a business venture fails there are two most likely reactions from the entrepreneur. You either give up or dive back in again, trying to make it right this time around.

Have you recently experienced a failed business? How are you dealing with it? Some entrepreneurs believe that the good thing about failure for a positive minded person (which should be the mind set of an entrepreneur) is the ability to use the experience as a learning process. Is it that easy to just pick yourself up and try again?

  • Raising funds for the SA Bone Marrow Registry
A young swimmer from Gauteng will take on the grueling Island Escape swim from Robben Island to Big Bay, as she attempts to raise funds for the South African Bone Marrow Registry.

Twenty-nine-year-old Christine Roos, who will be participating in the challenge for the first time, aims to raise R50 000 through her BackaBuddy initiative. The funds raised will be directed to the SABMR’s Patient Assistance Programme, that assists families who cannot cover the cost associated with the finding a suitable donor and or the life-saving treatment.

Every year, thousands of people with leukaemia, other blood diseases, and immune disorders reach a point where the only possible cure–and their only chance for survival–is a bone marrow transplant. It is for this reason that the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) was founded in 1991.
