  • The Voncast Show Ep. 68 James Shih Ahma & Alan (REUPLOADED)
Ahma & Alan is a dramatic short film about a Taiwanese grandma (ahma) that has to travel from a rural town in central Taiwan to the capital city of Taipei to pull Alan, her American-born grandson, out of jail before he gets deported by a vindictive police officer.

Ahma & Alan tackles identity issues many Asian Americans and the Asian diaspora face: What world do we belong to? Asia or America? This film shows the generational and cultural loss that comes with immigration, particularly in the loss of one’s heritage language.

  • The CSUN PCN 2019 Episode feat. Charlene Nacion (REPLOADED)
I am back with Pilipino Culture Night Coordinator Charlene Nacion to talk about this years CSUN FASA PCN!

Mabuhay! We are the Filipino American Student Association at California State University Northridge!

April 20th, 2019 marks the date of our 34th Annual Pilipino Cultural Night (PCN). This year’s PCN, entitled “Walang Hiya”, translates to “Without Shame”.

    —————————-
    Synopsis:
Valerie & Travis, two fraternal twins, and their mother Rae, living in America, take a visit to the Philippines to celebrate their 21st birthday. Excited to spend the next few weeks in the homeland, they begin to feel unwelcomed. With their cousins Bea & Brett, and their Tita Lez contributing the most to their flaws & insecurities, they begin to dislike who they are and in essence, begin to hate their Filipino identity. As most cultures come with their societal flaws, Valerie & Travis work together to overcome their personal insecurities and challenge the ideal beauty standards present in the Philippines & the Filipino community.
    —————————-

CSUN FASA’s PCN is FREE for the entire community! We have a 2pm and 7pm show on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Plaza Del Sol Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge.

We also have a gofundme crowdfunding campaign where you can donate to our organization! PCN is extremely expensive, and we need help in funding our venue, costumes, props, musicians, programs, and more.

For the past 33 years, members of our organization have graced the stage with dance and music of the Filipino culture, accompanied by a theatrical interpretation of Filipino and Filipino-American struggles in a student-written script. PCN is a unique performance genre that a celebrates the complexity and beauty found in the nuances of Filipino culture. It is an exploration of the intergenerational differences present in our families. Last but not least, it is a tribute to those who came before us, the strong-willed community among us, and to those who will continue to pave the way for generations to come.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the PCN Coordinator, Charline Nacion.

Maraming Salamat sa inyong lahat! Hope to see you all at the show!
