TODAY is World Ranger Day. It's a day to commemorate Rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and to celebrate the work Rangers do to protect the planet's natural treasures and cultural heritage. Today's Rangers Day comes days after Anton Mzimba, the Head Ranger at Timbavati Private Reserve in Hoedspruit, Mpumalanga, was murdered in front of his family onTuesday night. The murder has been described as a 'hit' in which the killers drove up to his house, shot him dead, and drove off. Anton Mzimba is among 12 rangers who died in the line of duty over the past 2 years.  Joining us on the line is Tinyiko Golele, a female regional ranger based at Skukuza camp in the Kruger National Park.....

Former ANC Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe says there would have been no need for the step-aside resolution had the ruling party implemented its own constitution to deal with malfeasance and the lack of discipline. He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Party's 6th National Policy Conference underway at Nasrec south of Johannesburg. Some party members have criticized the implementation of the step-aside rule - claiming it is selective. Ntebo Mokobo has more.

This week’s  highly contentious elective conference of metalworkers union, NUMSA, ended on Thursday with some union regions rejecting the outcome of the congress, maintaining that it should be declared null and void. This was after the Labour Court in Johannesburg had dismissed the union's application for leave to appeal against the court's decision which interdicted the congress from going ahead.  NUMSA's Regional Secretary in the Western Cape, Vuyo Lufele, was among those saying the congress did not comply with NUMSA's own constitution, because the Mpumalanga region was excluded from attending. He reiterated that the elections which were held for new leadership were also null and void. That statement was a clear sign of future battles for the heart and soul of South Africa's biggest single trade union. We spoke to Labour Analyst, Mamokgethi Molopyane.

There was a total overhaul of the top five leadership of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal. Premier Sihle Zikalala lost the race for the chairperson's position to Sboniso Duma. Duma's slate swept all the top five positions during a provincial elective conference held in Durban. At least 1607 delegates voted during the conference. It's official - Banyana Banyana are the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions. This after beating Morocco two-one at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium last night. This is Banyana Banyana's sixth attempt to win the tournament. They failed to win five previous Women's AFCON finals in 1995, 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018. But in 2022, the team has got the glory for the first time in the history of the national senior women's team. It's also the first time since Bafana Bafana's win in 1996 that a senior national football team has been victorious in the Nations' Cup . This week's regional efforts to resolve the crisis in Eswatini hit another major stumbling block when a second summit intended to discuss a national political dialogue in the troubled kingdom was canceled at the last moment. The summit of the Southern African Development Community - SADC's security organ, which was supposed to have been held on Thursday, would have been chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa. King Mswati reportedly said he would only attend the Pretoria summit virtually, so the other presidents called it off as they insisted on a face-to-face meeting with Mswati. Swazi opposition forces are furious and have demanded that SADC step up the pressure on Mswati to negotiate. Sebenzile Nkambule spoke to Mlungisi Makhanya, president of the People's United Democratic Movement - PUDEMO -  the largest opposition party in Eswatini.
