Yesterday , Judge Hans Fabricius ruled in favour of the family of 40-year-old Colin Khoza. Law enforcement officers are accused of assaulting and killing Khoza at his home in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg last month, while enforcing COVID-19 lockdown regulations. Some members of the restaurant owners association in Pretoria have expressed anxieties with the non-payment of most of the staffers by the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)Covid-19 fund Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme . The Tshwane Tourism's Association representing most restaurants in the Capital City say only a small percentage of staffers were paid despite the UIF's online portal creating an impression that it has paid out. The industry in Gauteng employs around 300- thousand people. Restaurant owners are appealing to government to pay all staff what is due to them as tensions are mounting between employees and employers. An employee at a Checkers Store in Sunningdale in Cape Town, details how the store continued to operate as normal despite having a staff member who tested positive for COVID 19. The employee who is a cashier is one of those who came into contact with the other cashier who tested positive last month. Labour Inspectors are investigating the incident. The concerned employee painted a picture of a food chain store that allegedly put profit before the safety of workers as our Parliamentary Correspondent Mercedes Besent tells us.......
