Political Analyst Professor, Ntsikelelo Breakfast says he hopes the interventions announced by President Ramaphosa in his SONA speech to fix the water crisis and the state of local government will bear fruit. In dealing with the current water crisis faced by a number of municipalities across the country, Ramaphosa announced action plans. The establishment of a national water crisis committee and the litigation against municipalities for contravening the provisions of the National Water Act, primarily the unlawful discharges of pollution were amongst some of the top priorities. Burundian President, Evariste Ndayishimiye has officially taken over as the new African Union chairperson. He succeeded Angolan President, João Lourenço. African leaders are meeting in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa for the 39th ordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU. Youth skills NPO, Afrika Tikkun has sounded a new and chilling warning as it projects that nearly five million young South Africans will vanish. The organisation says, the youngsters will not be leaving the country, and they will not be going into hiding, but they will effectively "disappear" from our economy. These are the matriculants of 2025 and the graduates of years past who, after months of silence from employers, are finally giving up. They are slipping into the shadows of the "Not in Education, Employment, or Training" category, becoming economically invisible and socially disconnected. Residents of Melville and surrounding areas have called on the City of Johannesburg to have a concrete plan for water provision. Frustrated community members continued picketing on a number of roads this week. This as some have not had water for over three. As Africa navigates rapid development, climate change, and global uncertainty, the African World Heritage Fund says it will continue its 20-year legacy of ensuring that the continent's irreplaceable heritage is protected for future generations. Founded in the year 2006 by UNESCO and the African Union, the Fund aims to address two historic challenges: the underrepresentation of African sites on the World Heritage List and the limited financial, technical and human capacity to safeguard Africa's Outstanding Universal Value heritage. The Credit Association of South Africa (CASA) has made a clarion call to consumers, warning them not to use debt review as a savings tool. This comes on the back of recent data from the DebtBusters, which reveals that consumers are now using a record 71% of their take-home pay just to service debt. Police have confirmed that one of the men implicated at the Madlanga Commission has taken his own life. 41-year-old Wiandre Pretorious allegedly shot himself at a filling station in Brakpan East of Johannesburg in front of his partner, a police sergeant. Marius van der Merwe who testified under the name of Witness D, implicated Pretorius in the murder of a man in April 2022. On Thursday, he survived an attempt on his life outside his Boksburg home where gunmen fired 16 bullets into his car. Kaizer Chiefs, who were knocked out of the local Nedbank Cup this week despite being crowned champions last season, will look to put a smile on their fans faces in Polokwane, Limpopo TODAY when they face Al Masry in a crucial group stage game of the CAF Confederations Cup.
