Dr. Anthony Fauci will face a contempt of Congress vote in a Senate committee next week after he invoked the Fifth Amendment in a hearing about his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and its origins.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul led the charge to have the now-retired infectious disease expert testify.

But Fauci declined to answer dozens of questions from senators.

"Any reasonable person who has followed his unhinged obsession with me would readily come to the same conclusion," said Fauci.

"Therefore, although it pains me to do so because of the respect I have for the legislative branch of government and my decades-long record of cooperating with Congress, under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions. Thank you."

Paul told CBS News he believes Fauci could be prosecuted for not answering questions during the hearing.

Another mass shooting in Minneapolis by a man who should have been in jail, when is enough going to be enough??

Law enforcement says three people are dead after at least six people, including two police officers, were shot in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon. A source confirmed that one of the dead, the suspect, died by suicide.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is now investigating the use-of-force by Minneapolis police officers, although the extent of that force is still unclear.

Some residents began returning to Loring Towers — all but the ninth floor has reopened so far — as cleanup continued Thursday. However, some residents can’t yet return due to damage from the shooting.

The shelter that had been helping residents since Wednesday evening has closed since the apartment reopened.

Lindsay Clancy jury deliberates a 6th day, one deadlock report away from a possible mistrial

A tense moment played out at the defense table in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial Thursday, as her attorney, Kevin Reddington, gestured with papers in his hand and then stepped over to speak with Clancy.

The scene came as the jury of nine women and three men continued to deliberate. Jurors have twice reported they were deadlocked, and the judge has urged them to keep working toward a verdict.

Clancy faces three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children, Cora, Dawson and Callan. She does not dispute killing them but says she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

• Prosecutors have argued Clancy acted “intentionally, rationally, and swiftly” to kill her children. The defense, however, has argued Clancy should not be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis. If the jury finds Clancy not criminally responsible for the killings of her children, she could spend the rest of her life in a hospital.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York looked stunned as police descended on his rental vehicle when he tried to meet up with a $160 prostitute in an Ohio trailer park — while still wearing his wedding ring, bodycam footage obtained by the California Post shows.

York, dressed in a Yankees T-shirt, basketball shorts and tennis shoes, was pulled over in his rental Volkswagen SUV in East Palestine by officers and quickly taken into custody without issue, according to the footage.

One of the cops later discovered two of York’s phones in the rental car’s center console, the footage shows. When police sent a test text to York from the number listed on the undercover ad that led him to the trailer park, one of the phones is seen lighting up with an apparent notification that featured the words “the nude girl.”

York was at the mobile park home after he had agreed to shell out $160 to a woman for sex after reaching out to her through the ad on a website known for prostitution, according to a Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force incident report.

Dolly Parton, the country singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur whose rags-to-riches story, outsize persona and prodigious vision and talent placed her in a class by herself, died on Tuesday in Nashville. She was 80.

Hundreds of Lindsay Clancy supporters, many wearing pink clothing emblazoned with phrases such as “Believe,” “She Needed Help” and “Peace For Lindsay,” gathered Thursday outside the courthouse where she is on trial in the killings of her three children.

Clancy’s lawyer does not dispute that she killed the children, but says she should not be held criminally responsible because she was mentally ill.

The livestreamed trial has sparked massive discussions online and has brought attention to postpartum psychosis, a rare mental illness Clancy’s attorney Kevin Reddington says she had that is linked to the stress, sleep deprivation and hormonal changes that follow childbirth. Reddington said she also has bipolar disorder. After strangling her children, Clancy jumped from a second-story window and remains paralyzed from the waist down.

Ramsey County gang lawsuit: 6 members agree to skip Minnesota State Fair

On Wednesday, an agreement was reached between Ramsey County and some alleged members of the “Muddy” and “Ville” gangs in connection with a civil lawsuit seeking to prevent gang members from gathering at the Minnesota State Fair this year.

In court on Wednesday, six of the 10 listed members agreed not to attend the fair, according to court records.

Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom said Friday he is declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft, saying he has examined the league’s eligibility rules and believes they make him eligible — a claim that is not supported by the WNBA’s published rules.

In a video posted to X, Mr. Freedom, wearing an orange WNBA-branded sweatshirt, said his team had “carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion.”

“Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027,” he said.

The WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement does not contain a self-identification standard. Article XIII, Section 1(a) of the 409-page agreement states only that “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA,” and does not define “woman” or address gender identity anywhere in the document, according to an OutKick report. Neither the WNBA nor the players’ union has publicly clarified how eligibility would be determined for a transgender or self-identified player, the outlet reported.

Freedom, an 11-year NBA veteran and the third overall pick of the 2011 draft, said he was not trying to mock anyone.

“I am definitely not here to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices,” he said, adding that he wants the WNBA’s rules “applied equally, consistently, and without exception.”

The post is capitalizing on controversy surrounding remarks from Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, who said in a July ESPN profile that she wants to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to compete against biological men, while maintaining she does not “hate trans” people. The remarks have prompted rallies and counter-rallies outside WNBA arenas, and Cunningham addressed the fallout again this week, telling a USA Network broadcast that she wants “love and respect” to remain even amid disagreement, while lamenting that the debate has overshadowed the basketball itself, according to an OutKick report.
