The Witches of Letters: A Supernatural Rewatch Podcast

This week Joy and Laura discuss season 2 episode 10 “Hunted”. Sam runs away to find himself after Dean finally tells him what John said before he died. He encounters Ava who warns him he is in danger, and Gordon shows up again, but this time he is hunting Sam!

We discuss Gordon as a character and whether he is an anti-hero of sorts, Joy has issues with the writing, and we consider how the Yellow Eyed Demon is recruiting an army with only 4 people!

We also discuss the very blue motel decor, and why it was necessary for Sam to shimmy along a window ledge to get the files from the psychiatrist's office??

Joy’s Easter egg this episode is about the ‘Evil on Erie’ building and demonic activity in Lafayette, Indiana.

Stay safe out there, have each other’s backs, and always keep fighting!

This week Joy and Laura discuss season 2 episode 9 “Croatoan”.

We discuss the stupidity of a demon virus leaving traces of sulphur in victim’s blood. We reenact a scene which Laura thinks is hilarious, and Joy thinks is stupid (let us know what you think in the poll), and ask why everyone expects the doctor to know how to cure this unknown, brand new virus??

We also consider what John told Dean, and get annoyed that it still isn’t actually revealed in this episode!

Joy’s Easter egg this episode is about the history and legacy of the real Croatoan people.

Stay safe out there, have each other’s backs, and always keep fighting!

This week Joy and Laura discuss season 2 episode 8 “Crossroad Blues”. Sam and Dean investigate the lore of people selling their souls to the devil for fame and fortune, after two people report seeing black dogs just before their deaths. The brothers also finally get confirmation that their Dad sold his soul to the Yellow Eyed Demon in exchange for Dean’s life.

We discuss our thoughts on this episode’s show lore being based on a real person, how funny it is that Dean didn’t know what MySpace was, all of the different Demon eyes we have seen on the show so far, and whether Dean has become too unlikeable as a character.

We also debate the differing attitudes of the brothers when it comes to saving the victims in this episode, and to no one’s surprise Joy takes Dean’s side and Laura takes Sam’s.

This week’s Easter eggs are about Robert Johnson, misconceptions about Hoodoo, and black dog lore, including Norfolk’s Black Shuck.

This week Joy and Laura review season 2 episode 7 “The Usual Suspects”. Dean has been arrested for murder, and Sam teams up with one of the detectives to get to the bottom of what’s really going on.

We discuss how many movie references are too many for one episode, Laura adds random roadside attractions to our podcast road trip, and Joy has many issues with this episode that we get into.

We also discuss how much Dean has changed since dying twice and being resurrected, because he doesn’t seem to care much about people anymore, and he’s not very sympathetic now. Did dying mess with him and make him a darker character??

Joy’s first Easter egg is about the ‘Flex Squad Scandal’ from Baltimore, that is very similar to the corrupt cop situation we have in this episode, and was happening around the same time this episode aired. Then she also tells us the story of a ghost who helped solve her own murder, which is basically the plot of this episode.

This week Joy and Laura are exploring season 2 episode 6 “No Exit”. Jo teams up with the Winchesters to investigate a series of disappearances in Philadelphia, that end up being linked to the spirit of serial killer H.H. Holmes.

We discuss how much we think Dean loves Jo, but also how scared he is of Ellen.

We also discuss how similar Dean and Jo are in a lot of ways, and Joy is absolutely loving their interactions!

Joy’s Easter egg this week is about H.H Holmes, and we ask the question, why does Dean know what chloroform smells like?

This week Joy and Laura are discussing season 2 episode 5 “Simon said”. Sam and Dean meet Andy who has powers of mind control and is another one of the children connected to the yellow eyed demon. They also meet his evil twin!

Joy tells us her chilling theory about the immolation scene, and why the specific lyrics from “Can’t Fight This Feeling” are so significant in the jukebox scene.

We also discuss what we think about Andy’s van, how hilarious it is that Andy can mind control Dean to give him his car and tell the truth about what he and Sam do, and how convenient Sam’s powers are once again.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about Elmer McCurdy and how his body was mistaken for a prop, and the possibly haunted StoneLion Inn.

Stay safe out there, have each other’s backs, and always keep fighting!

This week Joy and Laura are talking about season 2 episode 4 “Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things”. Sam and Dean investigate a case of necromancy gone wrong.

We discuss why Joy thinks she would not survive a zombie apocalypse, how Neil is a massive creep, and the divide between Sam and Dean in this episode.

We also discuss Laura’s issues with one of the fight scenes, and how Dean won’t let Sam live down the fact that he was caught watching porn.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about a haunted farm near Cedar Rapids, and Ancient Greek zombie lore.

This week Joy and Laura are discussing season 2 episode 3 “Bloodlust”. Sam and Dean meet a vampire hunter, and a nest of vampires, but who exactly is the villain here?

We discuss how the sheriff looks like Mr Monopoly, the vampire special effects in this episode, and how happy we are to see Baby back to her former glory!

We also discuss how unhinged and psychopathic Gordon is (he is super hot though), Dean’s origin story, and how we don’t like that Gordon is driving a wedge between Sam and Dean.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about Red Lodge, Montana and the creepy stuff that occurs including real cattle mutilations.

This week Joy and Laura are discussing season 2 episode 2 “Everybody Loves a Clown”.  This episode hits on one of Laura’s biggest fears, clowns!

Sam and Dean infiltrate a carnival so they can track down a killer clown. They also meet some other hunters who can help them track the demon that killed their parents.

We talk about the world building of the hunter universe within the show, and why red balloons are so creepy. Did anyone else have red balloon nightmares as a child? Please let us know in the comments.

We also discuss the different ways both brothers are grieving, and Laura shares her own traumatic childhood clown experience.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about Medford, Wisconsin which is the setting of the episode, how you copyright clown makeup, the real Bunker brothers, and everything she could find that could explain why people have a fear of clowns.
