Meet the incredible Sharon Kilbourn, Director, Development and Communications at Next Step Ministries, Director, Outreach with Working Mother Experience (yes, our team is growing) and mother of two young girls. Sharon kicks off our second season on the podcast (yes, we are starting a new season in December because...why not?). 

Sharon is a force. While she says she takes time for a bubble bath every night, we don't know how she squeezes it in. Her passion is to create community and build connection among like-minded individuals (hence why we asked her to be our Outreach Director). In an incredibly short time-frame, Sharon has managed to help the charity she works for grow by leaps and bounds, enabling more support to the women it aims to serve. 

In this podcast, Sharon talks about her art (a candle burning at both ends) and what it means to her. As someone who is driven to work hard and achieve, she shares how she is working to find and maintain balance (and what a journey it is).

Mariane openly shares her journey with early pregnancy, the darkness that befell her during this time, and now, the "sparkles" she experiences as a mother. As our first abstract contributor, Mariane explores and explains her painting and its creation - thank you for paving the way for future abstract contributions. 

Mariane shares some kickass advice about how to direct our focus in life, opens up about the realities and pain of parenting and working during a pandemic, and the importance of sharing our darkest thoughts. Thank you, Mariane, for your bravery and willingness to go where most of us are too afraid to go. Your story will resonate with so many.   

In this episode, Angela and Morgan explore the meaty and intimidating subject of understanding the why behind our parenting actions and choices.

Using Dr. Shefali Tsabary's book, The Awakened Family as a basis for the conversation, we dig into how the ego (or the delusion that it is often predicated on) and our fears, often developed in early childhood, deeply influence our parenting and general existence as an adult. From the fear of being unloved to the fear of saying yes to the fear of being unhappy or unworthy, Morgan and Angela share their own personal experiences and stories that they have uncovered since becoming parents.  

Yet, there is hope. While understanding the root is helpful, it doesn't always lead to lasting behaviour change. To support change, Angela and Morgan provide a few gentle strategies that they continue to test and struggle with to help bring self-compassion and space to their stories. And with that space and gentle care, they are slowly starting to experience the change they wish to see and be.
