In this episode, we meet the incredibly ambitious, educated and inspirational Sarah Lerner, working mother and artist. 

A mother of five children ranging from teenager to toddler, Sarah still managed to find time to contribute a piece of art, almost submit her mayoral bid, run her Investor Relations business, and, start a non-profit organization, Anonymously Together, to share stories of workplace bullying and support individuals to move forward. Are you in awe yet? We sure are. In case you needed more, she's a Certified Financial Analyst and holds her Masters of Business Administration.

Together, we explore liberty, choice, and recovery from perfectionism. Sarah openly explores a difficult decision she made to support the well-being and sanity of her family during the pandemic, forcing her to sacrifice a dream (if only momentarily). We close on the simplicity and complexity of being our own "touch-tree"; remaining true to ourselves as we explore the unknown. Meet Stephanie Hoogveld, renowned Calgary-based professional artist, mother to a 9-month bundle of joy, and host of the upcoming Working Mother Experience Painting Party on June 14, 5:00 PM MST (yes, that's a plug). 

Stephanie shares her journey towards becoming a professional artist; finally listening to her inner voice after teaching math for many years. Painting  landscapes, specifically Alberta skies, Stephanie has made a successful career for herself both teaching art and completing commission pieces (we highly recommend you check out her recently launched online courses: https://www.stephaniehoogveld.com/onlineartclasses).

On the podcast, Stephanie generously shares how to find inspiration, meaningful strategies to help move through painters block, and  how to bring focus to your concept of being a working mother.  A true artist, she references the rule of contrast and reminds us that we must first paint the dark (the black foundation of each piece) before we can paint the light. What a profound metaphor for all things life.

In this episode, Morgan interviews the beautiful, open, and kind-hearted Amanda Langbroek, ambitious working mother and artist. 

Amanda opens up about her journey of leaving the working world in 2020 (not by choice, but perhaps by synchronistic design) and entering a full-time gig as a working mother (in-the-home) caring for her two daughters and one additional small human. She shares, for the first time with the broader world, about listening to her heart and honouring her core essence: she always and only ever wanted to be a mom, yet continued to pursue a career for many reasons. 

Thank you to Amanda for being honest about who she is and has always wanted to be. Her story will resonate with so many who have been teetering on the edge of staying in a job or "leaning in" for the wrong reasons and denying their inner guidance.

In this episode, Angela and Morgan explore how ritual is different from routine and its associated benefits to wellbeing and joy. Angela talks about her own rituals - a daytime run and nighttime tea and how ritual has infiltrated her parenting; Morgan shares how the pandemic has created a new and life-altering morning ritual for her and her family. 

Shifting gears, we explore the intensity at which we mother and work outside the home and how this has changed over the last 50-60 years. We ask big questions: "Has the intensity in which we work or mother increased our overall happiness?" "How has the number of options (i.e. the selection of roles we can now take on) impacted our happiness?" and "Are we being honest with ourselves about the options we are choosing; do we really want to parent, work or volunteer in this way?"

In this episode we meet Chris Murphy, working mother and burgeoning artist. Chris, having recently returned to work after her second maternity leave provides a unique perspective on balancing work and kids at home given the current context of COVID-19. 

She also shares the importance of focusing on the fun - this process and art isn't meant to be stressful. Yet, Chris also gets real about how difficult it is to translate what's in your head onto the page.

Pam shares her journey with her art; the iterations, the moments of pause, and how she's working through sharing it with the world. She also opens up about the challenges of being a working mother and how this exercise forced her to "enter the cave".
