  • US Mayor calls on officer who shot Australian Justine Damond to talk to investigators
Authorities in Minnesota say a police officer was startled by a loud noise before his partner shot Australian woman Justine Damond. Investigators have been speaking with Officer Matthew Harrity about what happened on Saturday night. Officer Mohamed Noor has declined to be interviewed so far. The city's Mayor is urging him to talk to investigators. In Sydney, Justine Damond's friends and family have been holding a vigil to remember her.

  • Republicans unable to agree on health reforms, Trump says Obamacare will 'probably fail'
After Senate Republicans failed to agree on a replacement plan for the Obamacare health reforms, attention has turned to the fall-back plan of simply repealing the existing system without a replacement. But that's now looking unlikely too, after several Republican Senators indicated they wouldn't vote for that either. So what happens if Obamacare remains in place but is 'allowed to fail', as the President Donald Trump is now predicting will happen? The World Today spoke to American health policy reporter Dylan Scott and political scientist Keith Gaddie.

  • Catholic Church rocked by two new scandals
Investigators in Germany have found hundreds of boys were subjected to physical and sexual abuse at a Catholic choir school, over a 70-year period. A report into the allegations has criticised the brother of former Pope Benedict - Georg Ratzinger - who ran the school for much of the time, but failed to intervene. It's one of two scandals embroiling the Catholic Church this week, with the start of a trial at the Vatican of two men accused of embezzling more than half a million dollars.

Nearly three years after signing a civilian nuclear supply treaty with India, the Federal Government has confirmed that the first shipment of uranium has left Australia for the subcontinent. The 2014 deal to sell uranium to India was the first time Australia had agreed to sell nuclear fuel to a country outside the non-proliferation treaty.

The number of Australians with severe food allergies has doubled in the last 10 years - and with that the number of restaurant diners struck down by food-induced anaphylaxis. Alarmingly, fatalities from food induced allergic reactions are increasing by around 10 per cent a year. To combat the problem, a new online training course for hospitality workers is being launched today.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced the creation of a UK-style Home Affairs portfolio to oversee Australia's national security agencies. Queensland frontbencher, Peter Dutton, will head the new department which will include his previous immigration and border protection responsibilities. Mr Turnbull is billing it as the most significant reform of Australia's intelligence and security arrangements in more than 40 years.

  • Justine Damond shooting 'makes absolutely no sense'
As a former police officer involved in police shooting, US Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice David Klinger says the police response in this case does not add up. Professor Klinger says there is no nationwide protocol covering police officers' body cameras. In this case, the officers may have believed Ms Damond was a witness, not a suspect, so they didn't turn their cameras on. He says there are circumstances where shooting from a car is appropriate, but in this case it's 'mind boggling'.
