It's the first time the rogue state has fired a missile that reached such a high altitude; it also travelled further than previous missiles. The UN Security Council is now calling an urgent meeting, as North Korea's leaders issue a warning to the United States that it is now well within range for a nuclear strike.

At least three Australian business have now been hit by the same malicious IT attack that brought down parts of the UK's National Health Service and Germany's national railway. The attack, using a software vulnerability stolen from the US Security Agency, has prompted debate about the way governments keep and weaponise software.

The Government has launched an inquiry into the services league, which will have the power to seize evidence and compel witnesses. The half a billion dollar organisation has been the subject of multiple investigations over the last nine months - among them, a police investigation into allegations of fraud and inappropriate spending.

    The number of Indigenous women in jail has soared by nearly 250 per cent since the final deaths in custody report was released in 1992, according to a report by the Human Rights Law Centre. High rates of domestic violence, biased judicial systems and 'tough on crime' approaches have been singled out by the report as the driving factor to the higher rates of incarceration.
