We are continuing our stories in the bible about people who have suffered abuse and trauma. We are looking into the Jacob's background and the violation of his daughter Dinah by one of the neighboring Hivite men. How did her family respond? Did they believe and protect her? Was the way that Dinah's brothers handled the situation sanctioned by God or not? We also find out why you should keep your word and honor your commitments. This story shows how God will use even flawed people to further his kingdom.

[00:00:00] Hi friends. Welcome. Come on in. How are you doing today? I hope that you enjoyed the study of Jeremiah last week. I know it was a lot to take in. There's a lot about Jeremiah to learn. You just did an overview last week. So many nuggets to chew on. So I hope that you learned something. I hope that encouraged you to read Jeremiah for yourself and learn some additional things.

[00:00:34] Now, this week I was doing some Bible reading in Genesis, and I happen to notice that the story before was the story about Dinah one of Jacob's daughters. And so I read it and I decided that I would do that lesson this week because it's short [00:01:00] and to the point. And so that's what we're gonna talk about today's, Dinah story.

[00:01:07] And I, you might have noticed that my podcast has been posting little bit late. I already mentioned that I had problems with my web hosting and I'm in the process of changing to a new web host. I'm still having trouble with transferring, but I was two weeks late getting out episodes. This week it was just a matter of exhaustion.

[00:01:36] Working 10 hour days now and coming home and trying to edit the podcast and get it posted on time, and I was just so tired. I was falling asleep on the couch. My husband's poking me. It's. 9: 30, 10 o'clock at night. And up until, you know, the [00:02:00] last couple weeks, I haven't had any problems posting on time, but I just wanna let you know I'm not going anywhere.

[00:02:07] Nothing is wrong, it's just technical difficulties. And then I'm just tired. Uh,

Speaking of posts, you've probably seen the big fiasco with the Dalai Lama. I don't even know what to say to that.

[00:01:17] This whole, you wanna suck my tongue. Saying that to a child is unacceptable.

[00:01:23] And I, I think a lot of you agree with that. He should never have said that to a child.

[00:01:29] Not surprised, but still appalled anyway. And we need to teach our children the good touch and the bad touch and what's appropriate interaction between adults and children.

Bio:

Summarized, my story begins from adolescence. I chose to consume alcohol; what was always in my home life. Instantly I decided this would be what I espoused because it gave me confidence and helped with being able to interact. It supported many things, although it increased very fast with tolerance and soon indulging into several drugs. For so many years I aimed at finding "functional" addict", but never came close. Rock bottom was never the end. There was always another bottom that was lower and harder to hit; proving it wouldn't never stop until I died. Overuse of the word Grace is impossible for me because it is the very means that I was granted to see and tangibly experience and believe in real freedom.   God allows me to remember from where he's brought me and oh  am I ever filled with gratitude. And I want to start from the bottom to walk with hurting addicted Men who also want to find freedom. I have created "Breaking Bondage from Addiction.com, to serve others of whom I was for years too long. Numerous unknown times, either by personal choice or usually by court mandate; I went through secular programs to overcome addiction, never once with peace, freedom, or success. Finally with Grace that could never be measured, I encountered a reality that I am forgivable, no matter the infinite chances I'd been given. God really loves us equally as much no matter what we've done to know how big shame can be. Shame has no place with a contrite heart and when one becomes ready to let God have control.

I talk about his birth, his ministry, his array of human emotions, the loss of loved ones, the religious leaders trying to destroy Him, his illegal trial, and being abandoned and betrayed by those closest to Him. I am recording this during Easter weekend, we just came from our Good Friday activity, which was stations of the cross. it's not the same as the Catholic stations of the cross. It's more of an interpretation. They use art, different [00:01:00] expressions of artistic forms, different mediums, and you go through the eight stations and there's bible verses.

[00:01:11] There's prayers and different things to think about. Sometimes there's music or sound effects. And every year it's different. It's really a great way to get into that meditative state where we're thinking about what God has done for us. And a celebration on Sunday, resurrection Sunday when he rose from the dead.

[00:01:44] I'm gonna try and put

[00:00:37] How are you doing? It is definitely spring here as I'm recording. Got some new rose bushes for my garden and they are starting to bloom. That's exciting. It is time for my spring planting of vegetables. I do have to finish that today.

[00:00:58] Now, I did [00:01:00] have a couple of guests that I was supposed to interview this week. But they have rescheduled, due to family illness. And so we're going to continue with our character study on some prominent people in the Bible, some that have experienced abuse or some major trauma.

[00:01:21] And today we're going to talk about Hadassah, also known as Esther. And we're gonna look into her story and who this King Xerxes was and the nuances in that story. I have seen a couple movies on Queen Esther, and they're kind of irritating because the movies depict the marriage between Esther and Xerxes as a love story.

[00:01:57] And I totally disagree with that. [00:02:00] Maybe they're trying to keep the movie family friendly or they don't like the reality of this story. But I'm going to give you the honest truth here, history of what's going on in the book of Esther, and this is an important book. Now, it gets a lot of flack because the name God is not mentioned in the book.

[00:02:24] But as you will see by reading the book,

Were you ever told that Bathsheba and King David had an affair? In our series of studying bible characters who suffered abuse, we are going to dive into the truth about Bathsheba and how she was a victim in three ways. We'll look at all the things that David was supposed to be doing but didn't. And how sin hurts innocent people and has serious consequences.

[00:00:33] Hi everyone. Welcome back to the show. I hope that you are doing well. It has been a crazy week, hasn't it?

[00:00:42] I've decided to do this week's lesson on people in the Bible who have suffered abuse, prominent people in the Bible. You may have heard their story. You may only know some of their story, but not all of it.[00:01:00] I've decided to do this week's lesson on Bathsheba. It has been all over Twitter, and it drives me nuts because it is very plain in the text, very clear in the Bible if you're reading the Bible, that Bathsheba was raped.

[00:01:20] She was not having an affair with King David. And so we're going to explore that today and you'll see for yourself that Bathsheba was a victim. And I probably need to just get off of Twitter and quit reading those feeds. But it does make me angry when we've got, these preachers and leaders of churches that are being misogynistic, blaming women for everything, for every man's choice.

[00:01:51] Or, not letting David,

[00:01:53] Take the consequences for his bad choices, for his own sin.

[00:01:58] so get your [00:02:00] Bibles out if you wanna follow along. We are going to be in Second Samuel chapter 11,

[00:02:08] I'm reading from the ESV version. You can read whichever version that you enjoy. You'll still get the same conclusion.

And I appreciate your support of this podcast financially and most of all praying for us here. And I know that you guys are praying for me because I have some even better news than last week. Brian got a phone call from Social Security Administration telling him that he was approved for permanent [00:01:00] disability benefits.

[00:01:02] And that was a huge surprise because we have been fighting for a year and a half to get that for him and we finally got it. And so that's a huge answer to prayer. And I know there are people listening that have some disability of some sort, and you're trying to get

[00:01:22] disability from the government because you can't work. It is really hard. It is super challenging and it's depressing and well

[00:01:32] I have friends that have been trying for years to get disability benefits and they've been denied and they appeal and get denied again.

We are continuing our series on People in the Bible who have suffered abuse. Today we are diving into Hagar's story and her son Ishmael. Where did Hagar come from? What led up to the unfortunate events Hagar endured? Did God really tell Hagar to go back to her abuser? Transcript: The God Who Sees Me: Hagar

[00:00:00] Hello, come on in. Welcome everybody. Did you know that you are loved by God? You are precious in his sight.

[00:00:09] So that is a reminder for you today. I'm glad you're here. I hope that you enjoyed my interview with Eric Allen last week. He was a awesome conversationalist and had a powerful story. Now this week we're going back to our series on prominent people in the Bible, those who have suffered some abuse.

[00:00:31] The Bible has a lot to say about abuse, contrary to popular belief. So

[00:00:37] it took me a long time to decide who I was going to do this week because we have so many stories in the Bible that we can learn from, and I decided to pick Hagar because I'm familiar with the story. and I think there is some encouragement in there that people [00:01:00] don't always see. Now we're going to jump around a little bit in the scripture because that's what we do when we do a Bible study of any kind, is that we are looking at some of the surrounding passages.

[00:01:13] They get some context and clarity in maybe the backstory or some cultural information. So let's get started here. We're gonna start in Genesis chapter 12 and,

[00:01:27] and I'm reading from the E S V version, but you can choose any version that you are comfortable with that you enjoy reading.

[00:01:37] So who was Hagar? Hagar was a servant of Sarah in Abraham.

[00:01:43] So to get the context of where Hagar came from and what led up to what happened to her, then we are going to

[00:01:53] go over what Abraham was about.
