I'm T.C. Burr, a writer, podcaster, and semi-professional encourager.
I started writing my novel after years of putting it off, and since then I've unlocked tons of creative and entrepreneurial energy that had lain dormant for years!
I think we are all naturally creators, and I love helping people rediscover their inner artist, and share their story with the world.
I'm a husband and dad living in Richmond, VA. When I'm not working or writing (or sometimes even when I am), I like to spend as much time as possible outdoors.
If you enjoyed this podcast, it would mean the world to me if you'd share it with a friend, and write a quick review.

This week on the podcast I interviewed author Carmen Norris.
Carmen loves stories and storytelling, and has for her entire life.
Her debut novel, The Offer came out in July of 2024.
Started writing songs and poetry, and early in life she started writing novels.
A couple years ago she decided she just wanted to get her books out there. Just wanted her stories in the world. She thought it was going to be traditional publishing but ended up taking the self-publishing route.
She wanted The Offer to be her debut even though she had written a lot of books - but this story felt unique.
Listen in to this amazing conversation where Carmen and I discuss:
- Her best advice to new authors
- and more!

This week on the podcast, I sat down with author Curt Fulster.
Curt's written 15 children's books, a zombie horror novel, screenplays, and award-winning animated short films.
An electrician by trade, Curt loves the art of storytelling, and he writes every moment he gets the chance.
Check out this inspiring conversation as Curt and I discuss:

This week on the Yet podcast I sat down with romance author Suzy Langevin.
Suzy majored in English Literature and has been writing her entire life, but at first she didn't think her writing rose to the level of importance as some of the great authors she had been reading.
She realized, though, that she didn't have to be ashamed of liking things because she liked them, and she quickly realized that writing "just a love story" had the power to talk about deeper issues like mental health, family dysfunction, etc.
Now all-in as a romance author, she writes the stories she wants to read, and she believes that everyone deserves a happy ending.

Daunting, exciting, and scary.
That’s how author Wendy Haller described the transition to being an author. She spent 19 years as a special education preschool teacher before having to step away for medical reasons.
After a month of grieving over having to leave her profession, she started writing.
She had always written poetry - what she calls her “poetic memoirs,” but she only shared it with immediate family for the longest time. But before her son went away to college, she made him a promise that she would focus on writing.
After stepping away from the classroom, Wendy decided she’d bring this promise to fruition. She always dreamed of being a writer but never had the confidence in herself. In her words “it’s very vulnerable” to put yourself out there.
When she published her poetry book, she wanted to keep it quiet, only sharing the link with immediate family. Her brother, though, put it on Facebook, proud of his little sister, the published author.
Even though this wasn’t what Wendy wanted, she describes it as a blessing - he had ripped the band aid off, and now it was out in the open.
Something that had been dormant in her for years had come to life. She wrote two children’s books, and started her first novel. Since she’d only done poetry and children’s books, the novel presented a new challenge for her.
She gave herself permission to let go of the doubt, and her creativity exploded.
I hope you’re half as inspired by Wendy’s story as I have been.

Welcome to Season 3 of the Yet podcast!
This week on the show - don’t quit your day job!
No, this isn’t me making a joke at your expense after you step off of the karaoke stage.
I am all for taking big risks, pursuing your dream, and building something amazing.
I think the world needs what you have to offer, and the biggest mistake you can make is to not take any action toward your dream job.
But I think for many of us, the temptation is strong - the minute we get that big idea - to quit our jobs and go “all in” on writing, podcasting, and business-building.
In this week’s episode, I share 4 reasons why I think hanging on to that day job (for now) is a really good idea.
Your day job can help fund your dream job
Having a solid day job can decrease pressure and extend the runway
Working a day job allows for valuable connections & networking
It keeps your skills and knowledge sharp setting you up for future success

Yet Podcast - Episode 38
Review the books you love!
What if I told you there was one action you could take that would cost you less than 5 minutes and very little energy, but would make a world of difference for someone else? Would you do it?
Imagine pouring yourself into something for a year or longer, releasing it out into the world, only to have it get crickets - no responses at all!
Sadly, this is what many authors experience, but it doesn't have to be that way.
How many books have you read this year? What if you left a review for half of them?
Why leave a review?
According to author Gary Chapman, one of the 5 Love Languages - the primary ways that some people feel loved and accepted - is words of affirmation. People like to hear that you enjoy their work!
I think this is especially true for artists, because so much of ourselves go into our projects. Here are just a few reasons to write reviews:
It helps get the word out, can increase sales
It makes you feel better
5m of your time can have an incredibly positive impact on the creator
Advice for leaving reviews
1. Read books! Reading is in my top 5 list of favorite things to do, and as a recent podcast guest shared, reading can also make you a better writer, or creator.
2. Read Local, indie authors. This doesn't mean you can't still read the big, famous authors - I do this all the time. But don't forge to show some love to Indie authors, too. Bonus points if it's someone you know personally!
3. Be Honest, and be kind. NEVER fabricate a review - but don’t leave an unnecessarily unkind one.
One of the podcasts I listen to encourages listeners to leave an “Honest, five star review” and I love this!
4. If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. This is age-old advice that works in almost any arena of life, but certainly with reviews as well.
5. Online reviews are great (and necessary) but what often holds more weight is a personal recommendation to friend.
When you receive a negative review
This is a when, not an if - anyone who creates, who puts themselves out there, is subject to critique. When this happens to you--

This isn't just limited to books! Review the podcasts or other art you love, too. This even includes liking, commenting, and sharing social media posts. Let the creators in your life know that you appreciate their work!
