This week on the Zen Perry Project we enjoyed a chat with heavy metal vocalist James Durbin. In addition to talking his brand new album Screaming Steel, the iconic American Idol alum was happy to detail how focusing on his intentions has helped him avoid assholes and sustain a career of creating and performing the music he truly enjoys.

This week on the Zen Perry Project we had the pleasure of sitting down with Tristan Shone, the tinkerer mastermind of Author & Punisher. Don’t let his San Diego surfer vibes mislead you, Author & Punisher is a juggernaut of the heavy industrial music scene, churning pounding beats and distorted vocals from an arsenal of personally-crafted metal MIDI monstrosities called Drone Machines. Appearing like relics salvaged from a futuristic cyberpunk dystopia, Tristan’s fusion of mechanical engineering experience and now 20 years of commitment culminate in his fantastic creation of cathartically heavy sonic landscapes.

Kicking off a Midwest & East Coast Tour later this week do NOT miss Author & Punisher live in a city near you; we cannot wait to catch him at Saint Vitus Bar here in NYC on March 3rd.

This week on the Zen Perry Project, we’re joined by Tom, Zach, and Sebastian of the Nashville based stoner metal band HOWLING GIANT. From the rare liquid-filled vinyl release of Glass Future to being mindful of 5G towers on next month’s tour with Wino and the Obsessed, the band chats about everything from the weirdest place they’ve found themselves sleeping on the road to creating their own retro video game.

This week on the Zen Perry Project, we're truly honored to be joined by Julie Edwards and Lindsey Troy of the Los Angeles based rock duo, DEAP VALLY. About to embark on their Farewell Tour and having just released an incendiary re-recording of their debut Sistrionix 2.0 (Deap Vally's Version), the iconic duo fondly reminisce about their phenomenal run, look back on how they navigated an ever-evolving music industry, and look ahead to what will come after they take their final bow.

This week on the Zen Perry Project, we’re joined by Cameron Lavi-Jones, frontman of the Seattle based alt-rock outfit KING YOUNGBLOOD. From discussing how he uses his songwriting to advocate for mental health self-care to how he stays organized pursuing a myriad of creative professional projects, Cameron’s passion is genuinely inspiring throughout this thought provoking conversation.

This week on the Zen Perry Project we are joined by Jamie Knox, drummer of Philadelphia progressive death metal band - HORRENDOUS. In addition to briefly overviewing the history of the band and delving into drummer deep cuts like the merits of foregoing using a click, Jamie reveals which band member is most likely to go missing and talks how the band was baby conscious in approaching the release of their latest acclaimed release, Ontological Mysterium.

This week on the Zen Perry Project we are joined by Dave W. of WHITE HILLS - a hypnotically-crushing, genre-defying duo based in New York City. In addition to diving into how he and his longtime creative partner Ego Sensation have embraced experimentation and not overthinking mistakes, Dave reminisces about his career from how experiencing tragedy shaped and sparked what became White Hills, to why he’s especially excited about the upcoming album Beyond This Fiction. Whether it’s what you should name your band when you have three people named Dave or considering how onstage presence is impacted by a seated drummer - Dave’s insight as an artist is genuinely rousing.

This week on the Zen Perry Project we welcome VINCENT BLACKSHADOW, an earnest multi-instrumentalist rocker from Brooklyn. In addition to insisting how entertaining oneself is paramount to writing and performing, Vincent talks everything from his parents’ penchant for performance art without the art, to working the door at Purgatory and musing about at least one music genre he wishes had managed to stay dead.

We start 2024 hot with BEN GARCIA - one of the show's closest friends and the creator of our favorite condiment, BEN'S BUTT BUSTIN' SAUCE. Sure we'd follow this man off a cliff and thank him for it - but that being said, even if this sauce was made by our worst enemy we'd still be first in line - it's THAT good.

Get your own bottle by following Ben's Butt Bustin' Sauce on Instagram OR posting the top comment on this video.

In addition to talking sauce, Ben is one of the most prolific film buffs we've ever met - stay tuned for a part 2 where he shares his dare we say spicy picks of the best movies of 2023!

This week on the Zen Perry Project we crack open some Mythos with Labros of 1000mods. After being lightly but righteously admonished for our beer choice (we obviously would've preferred the band's signature brew, the SUPER VAN LAGER), Labros talks shop about everything drumming, considers how his artistic mindset has evolved throughout his career, and reminisces about how a group of childhood friends from the village of Chiliomodi became one of the best stoner metal bands in the business.

Catch 1000mods currently touring North America this fall - we can't wait to see them at NYC Desertfest on Friday the 15th.
