January 26, 2020Lon Mapes Performance and Connecting the DotsWe have an exciting episode for you this week featuring a conversation with Lon Mapes who is the President and Owner of LDM a Commercial Real Estate Brokerage. We sat down with Lon to gain some insight into his mental approach to running a company and supporting healthcare institutions throughout the Inland Empire who meet the medical needs of a population in great need. Before getting started, we want to share a few themes from our conversation that you can listen for.We were struck by Lon’s highly developed sense of self-awareness. Lon possesses a natural curiosity for understanding “how things work.” He is motivated to accomplish what others believe he cannot do and he is not afraid to chart his own path. Lon is not wired to do the “same routine” every day. He admits to getting bored easily and likes to be challenged by new things. It is no surprise that he has always been an entrepreneur, even from childhood. As has been the case with most of the entrepreneurs we have had on the podcast, Lon claims to have not mastered goal setting. His goals tend to be general and big picture. Aside from that, his clients’ goals really become his goals. Lon loves what he does, especially the thrill of taking a complex situation and bringing people together. He is driven to connect with others and sees ways in which those connections can benefit all involved, even when they do not see this for themselves. He believes that this is one of his God-given skills – he is a “dot-connector” - and this gives him tremendous satisfaction. Our highly accomplished performers all seem to have in common a well-developed mental framework for taking risk. They have all committed to build their “risk-taking muscle.” And Lon is a great example of this. He is not afraid to take risk in pursuit of his curiosity and passion to learn more, or to add to his experiences. Lon is most comfortable taking risks that he understands. You will hear several examples of this in our conversation. He also approaches risk-taking with patience. He is willing to pay his dues and he counsels that success, “just does not happen overnight.”In the words of a true entrepreneur, Lon says at critical point in our conversation: “Everybody is different and can tolerate different levels of risk. It just depends upon their personality and their makeup. But, make no mistake about it. There is always risk. You cannot ever eliminate risk. You just manage it. You get to a place where you are comfortable with it. You have to get comfortable with failure at some point.”You can follow Lon Mapes on Instagram @lon_mapes, on Twitter @LonMapes, on Facebook @lon.mapes, or on the web at www.ldmcommercial.com.Now, get ready to be inspired by Performance and Connecting the Dots with Lon Mapes....more1h 11minPlay
