Delft boss and current Berliner LA-4A joins The Bunker’s Bryan Kasenic for a session, live from our NYC studio.

At the end of 2013, a 12” on a label called Delft, by an artist called LA-4A, landed in record store bins. An unknown producer releasing on an unknown label might not be notable in and of itself, but the music didn’t sound like the work of someone just starting out – it betrayed the dancefloor knowledge and sophisticated production work of someone better-known than they were letting on. LA-4A, as it turns out, was Kevin McHugh, a Berlin-based American who’d been recording since the mid-2000s as Ambivalent – he let the cat out of the bag by “signing” an Ambivalent track to Delft, joining the likes of Matrixxman, Vin Sol and Alden Tyrell on his own roster. Whatever name he’s using, the project has given McHugh’s career a jolt, and his perfectly executed, acid- and electro-inflected tracks have become indispensable for myriad DJs. McHugh will join The Bunker’s Bryan Kasenic to flesh out the LA-4A sound with a DJ set and interview, live from our studio in New York.

One-third of Hot Mix and The Bunker’s latest signing, Justin Cudmore joins Bryan Kasenic for a party-starting broadcast from NYC.

Originally from Springfield, Illinois, and arriving in Brooklyn by way of Chicago, Justin Cudmore has quickly become one of the city’s most beloved DJs. His style is ear-catching and party-starting, honed through near-constant sets at the borough’s better house and techno parties – often solo and occasionally as part of Hot Mix, his-back-to-back-to-back project with Mike Servito and Gunnar Haslam – and countless nights taking it all in from the dancefloor. Recently, he’s funneled the energy of his DJ sets into production. With Mike Servito, Cudmore scored a monster hit in 2016 with “Crystal (Servito’s 730 Reshape),” an addictive acid cut for Honey Soundsystem that’s been unmissable in the club since its release. Now, he’s joined The Bunker New York roster with his first solo release, the Forget It EP, and the promise of more originals and remixes to come. To mark the release of the new record, Cudmore stops by our NYC studio for a DJ set and wide-ranging interview with The Bunker’s Bryan Kasenic.

Giegling co-founder DJ Dustin drops in The Bunker’s biweekly techno showcase, live from our NYC studio.

What is Giegling? You may know them as a label, and a very good one at that – they’ve been Resident Advisor’s label of the year twice. But like everything else Giegling does, releasing records feels like less of the endgame than a way of channeling a very particular feeling, one the collective first hit upon with a series of perfectly magical parties thrown in a former student bar in Weimar, Germany. Their latest endeavor is Planet Giegling, a tour that will take them through 18 cities around the world and showcase the project as a truly multidiscriplinary endeavor – seated concerts, installations and exhibitions are scheduled alongside club nights featuring the likes of Konstantin, DJ Dustin, Ateq, Vril, Leafar Legov and more. As Planet Giegling swings through New York, Dustin – a masterful DJ and Giegling co-founder – pays a visit to our studios for a DJ set and interview with The Bunker’s Bryan Kasenic, potentially with a few surprises in tow.

Bunker boss man Bryan Kasenic invites respected Brooklyn producers Jake Reif and A.Arias, for a live broadcast from our NYC studio.

You’d do yourself a favor getting to know each of The Bunker’s guests this week – both have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of distinctive sounds and killer records. First up is Jake Reif, a longtime New Yorker who came up through Sonic Groove Records and Syntax Music Distribution. Along the way, he’s amassed an impressive working knowledge of techno and industrial, and he’s made wide-ranging music with the likes of Reade Truth (as Upsetting Keys) and Mystic Bill (as Savage Hymn). His recent solo work on L.I.E.S. as Device Control, however, has kick-started a breakout period in his career. Bryan Kasenic’s second guest is A.Arias, a name sure to look familiar to anyone who’s walked by a wheatpasted party poster in Brooklyn. You can find him most weekends at a club or warehouse playing in support of DJs like Steffi, Silent Servant and Mike Huckaby, and for good reason: his thousands-strong record collection is heavy on unearthed classics, and he can string together an extended set ranging from dub to house like few others in the city. As Algo-Rhythm, with JM de Frias of the Sequencias label, A.Arias also throws parties of his own (Chez Damier and DJ Sotofett have featured), and his label Strobelight Network has jumpstarted Iceland’s long-dormant Thule crew. Both guests are deserving of a little extra shine – tune in for a DJ set and interview with each.

Ahead of The Bunker’s 14th anniversary, Tin Man and Gunnar Haslam, AKA Romans, present a live set of acid-infused techno, live from NYC.

Vienna-based techno auteur Tin Man already had numerous albums and EPs under his belt when he linked up with Gunnar Haslam, a pseudonymous Brooklyn producer at the very start of his career, to form Romans. Any apparent experience gap was for naught – bonding over a shared love of acid basslines, shadowy sound design and motion-inducing composition, the pair has made some of the finest music of their careers together, during a period when both have been moving from strength to strength as solo artists. Their most recent outing for The Bunker New York is Valere Aude, an album of dancefloor killers and electronic experimentation that simultaneously plays to both producers’ strengths and draws them out of their comfort zones. Fitting for a couple of guys who first met at a Bunker event, Romans will headline the techno institution’s 14th anniversary party this month – but first, they’ll bring their hardware-heavy live set into our NYC studio for a very special edition of Bryan Kasenic’s bimonthly broadcast.

Modular synth master Mark Verbos returns to our NYC studio for a live ambient set and conversation with The Bunker’s Bryan Kasenic.

Mark Verbos makes electronic music – as well as tools for making it. His New York-based company, Verbos Electronics, founded in 2014, makes Eurorack modules that incorporate a deep understanding both of vintage gear and contemporary techniques, and you’ll find them in studios and live rigs all over the world. Verbos is a freak about gear, but his musical knowledge extends well beyond the technical. Like many of the artists in The Bunker’s orbit, he traces his musical roots to the Midwest rave scene of the early ‘90s, with a discography stretching back more than two decades. Verbos is back in the studio with Bunker founder Bryan Kasenic for another live performance on his Verbos Electronics system – this time, he’ll be playing an ambient set.

Old friends from Detroit who are now favorites on the international circuit, Magda and Mike Servito join forces live from our NYC studio.

Magda and Mike Servito trace their friendship back to ‘90s Detroit, where the city’s untouchable techno scene blew their minds to the extent that they couldn’t help but dedicate their lives to the sound. Magda achieved international success first, during the ‘00s heyday of Richie Hawtin’s M_nus label, and later as part of the Items & Things crew and, most recently, as part of Blotter Trax with T.B. Arthur. Servito, Magda’s occasional touring partner in Europe, rose swiftly through the ranks these last few years on the back of blistering DJ sets, a Bunker residency and the ensuing, rabid word-of-mouth that resulted from both. On this very special edition of The Bunker’s bimonthly broadcast, Bryan Kasenic brings these dear friends, colleagues and music obsessives together in our NYC studio to share their considerable chemistry with the world.

The iconic label’s founder and one of its longtime acts link up live in NYC for a celebration of dark techno and industrial textures.

Sonic Groove dates back to the rough-and-tumble Brooklyn of the early ‘90s, where brothers Adam X and Frankie Bones founded the first all-techno record store in America. Adam started the label out of the shop, and it’s gone on to become an international force in techno. Particularly over the last few years, Sonic Groove has had its finger on the pulse, releasing records as forward-thinking as they are hard-hitting from names like Henning Baer, Dasha Rush and Northern Structures. Adam X has called Berlin home for many years now, but as he returns to New York this week for a special Sonic Groove party hosted by The Bunker, he’ll stop by our studios here for a sit-down with Bryan Kasenic. Joining him will be Orphx, the longtime Sonic Groove-affiliated duo of Christina Sealey and Richard Oddie, whose latest album Pitch Black Mirror arrived earlier this month.

The Brooklyn techno veteran and Berghain resident joins Bryan Kasenic to DJ and chat about their rich history together, live from NYC.

For the past several years, Anthony Parasole has served as a resident DJ at the world’s most famous club, Berghain in Berlin, and traveled the planet as part of their Ostgut Booking roster. But the knowledge and technique he brings to production and DJing were honed in New York, his hometown and home base. He spent the mid-2000s as the techno buyer for Brooklyn’s Halcyon record shop, and in 2008 he and his former colleague Levon Vincent launched Deconstruct Music, the label behind such classics as Vincent’s Invisible Bitchslap EP and DJ Qu’s Party People Clap doublepack. Parasole’s own label The Corner debuted in 2012. Pairing uncompromisingly tough techno with a punchy, streetwise visual aesthetic, it doubled down on just about everything Parasole stood for artistically – and pushed him into the spotlight well beyond the five boroughs. That’s the long and short of it, but tune into this week’s edition of The Bunker for the nitty-gritty – he’ll share a DJ set and talk shop with his old friend Bryan Kasenic.

The Romans member and Brooklyn techno experimenter pays a visit to Bunker founder Bryan Kasenic, live from our NYC studio.

In 2013, Gunnar Haslam seemed to materialize out of thin air with a brittle, elemental LP for L.I.E.S. called Mimesiak. With each subsequent release – two more albums for L.I.E.S., plus appearances on Mister Saturday Night, Argot, Delsin and Efdemin’s Naïf imprint – Haslam’s sound has grown more fully formed and multifaceted. Along the way, he’s formed a rich musical partnership with Johannes Auvinen, AKA Tin Man, and their Romans project has become a stalwart of The Bunker NY. Though his track titles betray a working knowledge of pure math and higher-level physics, and the tracks themselves suggest a love of electronic music from Autechre to Ricardo Villalobos, the man himself prefers to stay somewhat anonymous. Live from our NYC studio, Bunker founder Bryan Kasenic will shed some light on the Brooklyn producer and DJ nevertheless.
