  • How to Tell if Your Partner is Controlling + Attachment Styles, Trauma, and Self-Esteem

In today's episode, I review an article by Dr. Andrea Bonoir  - the article is linked below. She outlines 20 Signs Your Partner Is Controlling. In this episode I go over each indicator as highlighted by Dr. Bonoir and I give detailed descriptions of what this might look like in your life if your partner is controlling, OR if you are displaying controlling behaviour, and tips on how to manage your mental health through this. If this is something that you're struggling with, please seek help from your healthcare providers - this podcast is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for mental health care.

In This Episode I Jammed On:

    • What it might look like if your partner is controlling
    • What if might look like if you are the controlling partner
    • Attachment styles, trauma, and low self-esteem as factors contributing to a need for control
    • The implications on your mental health and wellbeing of being in a toxic or unhealthy relationship

Lina graciously shares her journey with slowing down and learning to listen to her body and her intuition in her daily life versus being driven by her to-do list (relatable, am I right?!). There's so much chaos and noise, allow yourself the time and space to clear our and sift through to find out what's really important to you. In this episode, you'll feel so inspired and encouraged to begin to reconnect with yourself.

  • Shifting your mood in 3 minutes or less

How often do you tell yourself: "I don't have the energy for that", "I wish I had time to do that", "I feel stressed", "I feel exhausted", "I shouldn't feel this way".

    • What if we leaned in to the discomfort?
    • We can acknowledge our feelings, and recognize ourselves for trying our best, AND we can CREATE energy out of thin air.
    • I value rest and recovery and I know that it's also important to thrive in life and to be able to engage in everything that you were put on this earth to do.
    • You have the power to shift your mood from "I can't" to "I CAN!!!!!!!!"

  • Tammy Udowenko on emotional eating, body checking, and the binge-workout-restrict cycle

Emotional eating is not a matter of "no self control" or "no will power" - it's so much more than that -it's biological!!! WE are creatures of habit and pattern AND our bodies require certain nutrients to help carry out our functions. Career & Life Transitions Coach, Tammy was so open and honest about sharing her journey through emotional eating, adjustment and transition periods clinging to food and fitness as a sense of stability, comfort, and security during these times - we talked about rigid, disordered eating behaviours and how Tammy has moved through these to be able to live a more balanced and nourished life.

In this episode we jammed on:

    • Small moments from childhood and adolescence that still affect us now in regard to our body image and self-esteem
    • Body checking behaviour
    • Shame, guilt, and uncertainty about WHAT, WHEN, and HOW much to eat

  • [BONUS EPISODE] Myth busting the stigma surrounding therapy

Many people feel embarrassed that they see a therapist, and this type of shame and stigma can prevent some people from seeking help. Sometimes, people wait until things are really bad and they're no longer able to function without mental health support. I'm all about being proactive and empowering people to take care of their health every single day. In this episode, I shed some light on THERAPY and what it means to see a therapist and to talk about your emotions and to build a relationship with your therapist.

Common MYTHS that I discuss in this episode:

    • I don't like feeling emotions, talking about emotions is painful and it makes things worse
    • Having a 1-on-1 spotlight is uncomfortable "I'm not used to talking about myself"
    • I have to stay with same therapist - even if I feel like it's not helpful and we don't have a good connection
    • I have to continue with therapy regularly/forever
    • I don't have enough money for therapy
    • I have to be in crisis to get help - everything in my life is normal right now
    • I have to be burnt out or really struggling to seek help - the support that I get from my family and friends is enough for me
    • I haven't experienced any really bad traumas in my life - other people are worse off than me
    • I'm not willing to change but I want to talk to someone about what I'm going through and just vent. I feel like I'll be judged for not being ready to take action
    • Going to therapy means that I'm "crazy", not doing well mentally, or incapable or handling things
