Feature film: It dud time again as we talk the Cannon classic (even if it’s a classic only because it’s Cannon) Invaders from Mars. Even with the many horror and sci-fi veterans behind the camera, this movie still happens to be… well, interesting, at least. Odds and Ends: Welcome to the actual very first episode of There Will Be Duds… I mean “Friday Night Movie Club.” Glad we changed that. A bit of a bumpy ride, especially since we weren’t even planning on making this a podcast at the time, but we make do. The gist of the show’s structure and elements are here, albeit a bit more rough around the edges. Oh yeah, we sort of have a special guest for part of this one, but also, at this point in the show, technically most of everybody was a guest. That’s a little bit of Duds trivia for you there. 

Feature film: We started the show strong with Tom Hooper’s dud, the infamous Cats adaptation, the non-butthole cut, so of course we immediately delve into our own childhood trauma. Then we talk about other musicals. Then we talk about other movies. Basically anything but Cats. We’re introduced to Moose’s now-retired “dope vs. nope” rating system, and T.J. tries explaining his numbered rating system, the first attempt of many.. T.J. liked a song. Moose liked the colors. Everyone liked Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat. That’s about it. Definitely none of us got horny.

Next week's movie: We say Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but since that episode is lost to time, it’s actually Invaders from Mars (1986)

Odds and Ends: It’s our one year anniversary! Unless you count all those streams we did before we started doing podcast episodes. But it’s definitely our 50th episode! Unless… you count all those streams… Shit. Well, anyway, this is an episode and we think we’re hot shit. Join us as we take a trip down fictional memory lane with Dall-E, and down actual memory lane as we do a haphazard but definitive ranking of all the dud cup movies so far… Even though you’ll have to wait til another episode to hear the full results. We also had some guests! One planned, one not. This episode is a trip.

Feature Film: Do you fear death? Do you want to see how crool I kyan be? These are the essential questions all must ask themselves when consuming the entire Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, though spacing them out is recommended. We rave at the high highs of the series, and uhh, don’t rave at the low lows. Well, some of us still rave. FLIGHTLESS BIRD!

We're diving back into the documentary world with the highly influential Grey Gardens, which chronicles the lives of two aging American aristocrats as they live out their days in the decaying estate from which the movie gets its name. Hello? Yoo hoo! The two Edies are eccentric central figures of this strangely simple-yet-engaging piece of documentary filmmaking. Are you there? Yoo hoo!
