When Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned from Munich after signing an agreement with Adolf Hitler in 1938, he announced that he believed he had brought about "Peace for our time, " We all know how that worked out over the next decade. Everyone is still looking for peace, or their version of it. Peace is commonly thought of as "the absence of conflict", even if we feel obligated to go to war to trample our enemy underfoot. Can we ever expect to find that kind of "peace"? History says, no.
The Bible presents another view of what real peace is, and this word study of the Hebrew text of Isaiah 26.3 is a perfect foundation for understanding what real peace is, and not only why we can expect to find it, but we are expected to find it at all times.
This podcast is a recording of a message preached at Union Baptist Church, Harrison, Arkansas on June 11. I have added a footnote at the end, because my subsequent thinking on the subject brought a deeper understanding of what this message is all about.

Conclusion of preceding episode, in which we find Jesus and Peter talking about love, but each one saying something different. In the end, Peter makes the ultimate confession: when God speaks to us, He knows what He is talking about.

The Beatles sang about love, but the apostle John's gospel and his epistles are the major vehicles for God's official version of what love is and its place in our lives. This word study of three verses in the gospel of John reveals the importance Jesus placed on love in the process of restoring fellowship in a relationship broken by betrayal. I preached this sermon at Freedom Baptist Church in Colorado Springs on 1/22/2023, which I have edited and expanded for publishing on this podcast. I have divided it into two parts because of its length.
This study interrupts the ongoing studies in the Book of the Judges, because the nature of its content is better suited to this podcast rather than it is to Give Me This Mountain or In Times Like These.

When Ed and Abbie Potter landed on Madeira Island at 8:30 p.m. on December 3, 1976, with three small children, they had absolutely no idea what lay ahead of them in the future. In fact, they didn't even know where they would spend the night. That's not very different from what the Israelites were facing after Joshua died, who had led them in conquering the Promised Land of Canaan. The Book of Judges describes the first 300 years or so of their struggles to control the land they had "conquered", leaving us with many lessons to learn in our own struggles in life.
The first two chapters of the book serve as an introduction and from them we glean 6 important lessons.

In the experience of God's people in the O.T., Egypt represents the bondage of sin, the enticement of the world and its riches. The passage through the Red Se marked Israel's liberation from the power of the Pharoah, so that resolved everything, right? As we follow the history of this people, we will find that, although Israel was no longer in Egypt, Egypt was still in Israel, exercising its power and influence. And we who celebrate our redemption from the power of sin in Christ discover that we are still in the presence of sin, not only in the world that surrounds us, but in the heart that we harbor deep within us.
