Two weeks to flatten the curve. Thirty Days to slow the spread. Can anyone guess the next one? One year to obliterate society?
People given power tend toward totalitarianism. That shouldn't be all that surprising.
What frightens us, though, is just how easily our society took to the tyranny. They told you that you couldn't see loved ones. Life events that you can never experience again? Too bad. Live in abject terror of your neighbor. If they wave and say, "Hi," it may kill you. You want to go outside and get some fresh air? That makes you a murderer. You'd better not go to church, and if you do you'd better not sing as the Bible tells you to. (Ephesians 5:19, Psalm 47:6-8). And then your neighbors shamed you if you didn't join in the sense of terror.
For some amount of time, we all went with it. But even after the models proved to be off by orders of magnitude, why are there still people choosing to live in that terror? If the lockdowns worked so well, why do we still need them? And if they didn't work, why are we using them?
Today we explore that fear, discuss some solutions and what our posture should be as Christians toward this spirit of the age, and check up on a couple of local business owners who have chosen not to comply with the tyranny.
