Thinking Outside The Long Box episodes

  • TOTLB S79 Jake Horowitz
Because we loved The Vast of Night SO much, we are carrying on with another amazing interview from that movie! For this special interview episode, we are speaking with one of the principal actors, Jake Horowitz!
Jake plays Everett, a very outgoing radio DJ. Jake seems to want to outgrow the small radio station that he is currently employed at, and this is why he jumps at the chance to jump down the alien rabbit hole that presents itself. You can see how much Everett changes through the movie, from skeptic, to a believer (spoiler), at the end of the movie. His dialogue scenes are some of the absolute best parts of this movie, and something that Gabe and Jake talk about quite a bit during this interview!! Make sure you tune in to listen to Jake talk about his career, this movie, and some things he's got going on in the future!

  • TOTLB 220 The Cell
Every couple of weeks, we turn the clock backwards, and take a look at something from our past. Sometimes it's better to leave these subjects in the past, BUT, sometimes, we're more than happy that we took that look backwards. I think this is one of the cases, in which we were actually pretty excited going into this, and going out of this. We are of course talking about the Jennifer Lopez, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Vince Vaughn movie, The Cell.
All the way back to the year 2000, we take a twenty year look back at this psychological horror film. This is probably one of the last movies that Vince Vaughn participated in, that was not a comedy, and a pretty solid project for Jennifer Lopez. Of course, D'Onofrio is amazing is pretty much everything he does. But, The Cell follows Jennifer's character, as a child psychologist who can enter peoples' minds. In order to find the latest victim of serial murdered Carl Stargher, Lopez must climb into his completely insane mind. This movie was WAY ahead of its time, and is 100% worth the rewatch.

  • TOTLB 219 Blood Machines
Here we are, in the middle of the year, and we have come to what might quite possibly, be the weirdest movie (mini series) that we have watched, to date. Blood Machines is the brainchild of two french directors, who together, go by the pseudonym, Seth Ickerman! Along with Carpenter Brut, who paints an amazing audio canvas, they bring this crazy fun adventure to life.
Blood Machines is about "An artificial intelligence escapes her spaceship to turn into a female ghost and challenges two blade runners to a galactic chase." It is a wild ride, with some even more wild visuals, and a killer soundtrack to tie it all together. One of us has already deemed this as his favorite movie of the entire year. Found out who that is, and find out what the other two think about this insane venture. Hopefully you'll at least give it one try!

Welcome to another awesome interview episode!! The group watched The Vast of Night for one of our upcoming episodes, and we have a lot of amazing interviews coming from that movie!
For this interview, Gabe had the chance to sit down with actor, Gail Cronauer!! Gail has been acting for over thirty years, with an outstanding career on stage, receiving the Dallas Forth Worth Theater Critic Forum Award! Today, we spoke to her about her time on The Vast of Night, as Mabel Blanche. A believer in aliens, who believes that they took her son away from her, and wants nothing more than to reunite with him in the sky. We talk about the awesome script, her amazing scene, and the process of inventing words that are supposed to be from an alien language. Don't miss this interview!

  • TOTLB 217 Devs
This is probably one of the more fascinating shows that we have watched in a while! Not only are the visuals fantastic, especially within the Devs research area, but the story line itself, is a thinker. Do you think that we have free will, and are able to change things as we go through life, or is everything already setup for us!? That is the biggest theme in the FX on Hulu show, Devs!
Nick Offerman plays the CEO of a company, with a secret research department, called Devs. Well, as always, the CEO of the company isn't always above board with the people that he employs. He has a motive of his own, to prove make Devs functional, exactly as he see's fit, until the very end. And, in the very end, his character isn't as horrible as he comes off. He still sucks, he's just not AS bad!!

  • TOTLB 216 A History of Violence
How long does it take for a convicted felon to be discovered, once he goes on the lamb? That's a part of what we find out during out next episode!! We're talking about the 2005, Viggo Mortensen movie, A History of Violence!
Technically Tom Stall is not in the witness protection program, he's just on the run, and has started a new life. On the road for something like twenty years, Tom, we think, believes that he is no longer Joey Cusack, an ex member of the mob. That is, until Carl Fogarty (Ed Harris) visits Tom, having seen him on the news, saving a few of the townsfolk residents. Carl, is a member of the mob that Tom was running away from, and now Carl wants Tom to come back in order to face mob justice. Will the family stay together amidst all of the madness? Does Tom remember Joey, and do they end up going back to a life of crime?

  • TOTLB 215 Channel Zero
Apparently our show has leaned a lot more towards the horror genre in the last few weeks! We are continuing that trend with the latest installment! The beautiful thing about this next topic, Channel Zero, is that it is an anthology type series. So, none of the seasons have anything to do with each other. They may share an actor or two, but the characters are completely different, and have nothing to do with who they played in a subsequent season! If you're not convinced yet, the first season has to do with a tooth monster, and a young boy who makes up a TV show, in order to try and teach them a lesson about being mean to him. The second season is about an "art installation" of a house, that is more like a Halloween nightmare! The series gets better as you go, and it's definitely something that you should all be watching, originally airing on SyFy!

  • TOTLB 214 The World LIVE Edition
It's that time again for another edition of our patented, listener interaction episodes!! With Gabe and Juan in the same space, there was some great energy going, and I think that translated to this episode! PLUS, I think it translated to the video, as we got a lot of fI think people are trying to search out for something to distract them! Whatever it was, this episode is chalk full of great energy, and chalk full of awesome participation from a lot of people who listen/watch our show! We spoke about a lot of the pop culture stuff that is going on right now, as well as some of the bigger items that are effecting the world at the moment. We couldn't go through a session, without mentioning some of the things that are going on in the world!

  • TOTLB 213 Two Weeks of Pop Culture
We had planned on talking about a certain TV show, but half of the nights hosts, had to skip this session, and so Gabe and Juan decide to push that topic further in the future. For this episode, we are just talking about the last two weeks of pop culture that we have ingested!
The final season of Agents of SHIELD is in full swing. The team finds itself in the past, on the trail of the Chronicoms. At this point, the team jumped into the past, and then jumped forward to the 50's. They have been interacting with agents from the past, and even had to help Hydra, in order to make sure that SHIELD existed. Gabe also talks about the hilarious golfing show, Holey Moley. Produced by Steph Curry, hosted by Joe Tessitore & Rob Riggle, Holey Moley is too much fun, for a golf show! BUT, who doesn't like mini golf, and crazy obstacles?
