Finding Faith in the Depths of Hell. The host for this show is Dan 'Fig' Leaf. The guest is Guy Gruters.

Guy Gruters had already completed over 400 combat missions in the O-1 Birddog, only to be shot down as a Misty Fast Forward Air Controller during the war in Viet Nam. After recovering from significant injuries from that combat ejection, he chose to return to the dangerous Misty mission - only to be shot down again.

Badly injured and captured by the enemy, Guy was beaten, tortured, and watched an Air Force Academy classmate die from injuries inflicted by their captors. He descended into a hellish swirl of hatred for his enemies, and had an overwhelming desire to kill himself and deny the North Vietnamese the opportunity to use him as a pawn in the war.

Guy shares the powerful story of finding real faith after months of prayer, and his resulting transition from hate to love - even for his enemies.

The extinction of species is one of the most compelling problems of our times. The loss of the world's biodiversity negatively impacts human quality of life, cultural heritage, economic growth, the availability of clean drinking water and the potential for scientific discoveries. These are just a few examples of how our world changes when organisms vanish from the earth. Hunter Craft has been working on the front lines of this extinction crisis for the last two years with the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project, an organization dedicated to saving some of the world's rarest birds in one of the world's most beautiful places. Instead of being a career field biologist, Hunter originally trained as an anthropologist. It is this background that Hunter is so excited to discuss this with us today. Guest Hunter Craft believes that creativity is a key component of tackling such large and difficult problems as extinction. Creativity must draw inspiration from different places and traditions.
