  • Miles to Go on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment (American Issues Take Two)

Great Possibilities of Disqualifying GOP Officials.  The host for this show is Jay Fidell.  The guests are Heather Ferguson and Stephanie Dalton.

Our panel takes a closer look at Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and the specific language of that section in the context of he case decided in the State Court of New Mexico a day or two ago disqualifying a GOP official in New Mexico from holding office because of his participation in the insurrection.

Will this precedent stick on appeal.  Will it stick in the federal courts, the federal courts of appeals and the Supreme Court.  By its language, this section could block Trump from running in 2024, but there will have to be clarifications and interpretations dealing with whether conviction of a crime is necessary to bar an official from holding office, and what crimes and their connection with the events of January 6th will suffice.

  • Addressing High Housing Prices (Talking Tax)

Debunking the Remote Buyer Myth.  The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tom Yamachika.  The guests are Malia Hill and Jensen Ahokovi.

Hawaii is renowned for high housing prices.

Lawmakers have blamed them on wealthy out-of-state buyers with little more than anecdotal evidence.  As a result, lawmakers have proposed punishing new taxes such as an empty homes tax and steep hikes in the state conveyance tax.

But a study from the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii analyzes the evidence and debunks this theory.  We hear from the people who did the research and looked at the data, and we come to different conclusions about the cause of the problem and more effective ways to address it.

  • 'Bridges out of Poverty' by Ruby K Payne (World of Books)

Possible Solutions to Post Covid Poverty.  The host for this show is Mihaela Stoops.  The guest is Virginia Frank.

This discussion is based on the 5th edition of 'Bridges Out of Poverty' by Ruby K Payne and others. The book explains the causes of poverty and teaches individuals, agencies, non-profits and for-profit companies what to do to reduce poverty. Money is not the answer--or at least not the only one--when an individual needs to know and navigate the hidden rules of the social class that he/she wants to move to.  The current war in Ukraine, as well as the economic consequences of Covid, are pushing more people to living in poverty and we community members need to know how to help.  We narrow the discussion to Hawaii's challenges: the affordable housing crisis, the high cost of child care, and the limited means of mass transportation.

  • OMG - Judge Orders a Special Master (American Issues Take One)

New Delays for the DOJ Investigation.  The host for this show is Jay Fidell.  The guest is Chuck Crumpton.

The decision and order of Judge Eileen Cannon, a Trump last minute appointee, is very troubling.  Is it a political decision?  How much delay and damage does it do to the DOJ investigation? Will the DOJ appeal, and what can we expect on such an appeal, in result and in delay? Is a Special Master really necessary?  Who will be appointed?  What exactly will the Special Master do? Is there really an executive privilege here?  Did Trump have any conceivable right to take and keep these documents at Mar-a-Lago?  How will this affect the January 6th Committee investigation?  How will this affect the November elections?
