I'm back! Today I share a few personal life updates and give you a little glimpse into my recent road trip experience in Colorado. But the real point of today's episode, as promised, is to go small and take a closer look at unique experiences in life - there are words that describe very, very specific feelings, emotions, and situations, and the definitions hit you right in the feels. Listen to laugh with me at some of the realness of these definitions; some hit a little too close to home. We all experience these feelings, yet they are so difficult to describe, so I'm glad there's a dictionary where someone does the work and describes them for me (Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows). Reading these definitions and words just makes you feel a little more connected to humanity, knowing that you aren't alone in the way you feel, and these warm, tingly, or awkward and uncomfortable feelings that we experience are universal and what make us human.

This Extra Ordinary Life was created to help you expand your mind by zooming way in to the most mundane things in life (thinking about these things keeps you in the present moment, a key to creating happiness), and zooming way out to the larger philosophical questions of the universe (thinking about these things gives you a sense of purpose, belonging, and oneness with the world). I'm going to challenge you to think in new ways, without pushing any of my own beliefs onto you.
I want to plant new thinking seeds in your brains, but I also want you to be able to live your day and reflect on what I’ve said so you can form your own unique perspectives.
Sound good? I'll be releasing new episodes every Monday so you have some food for thought as you go through your weekly grind.
Stay curious, stay inspired, and see the beauty in all things, big and small — because this life is anything but ordinary.
What did you used to love doing when you were younger? What activities sparked your fun side? Were you more confident, creative, and curious than you are today? It's completely normal if your answer is 'yes,' I think we were all a little more of our 'true' selves before responsibilities and societal influences were thrust upon us. In this episode I dive into the differences between who were were as children, and who we are as adults (generally). Our inner child is still within us, we just need to, well, think and act like a child - play with things, create things just for the sake of creating, and question the world around you.

I've had a fascination with car rides, both long and short distance, for as long as I can remember. Every single day millions of people just hop in their car and hit the road - boom, instant and accessible transportation to wherever you want to go. It's quite miraculous, really. Today's episode takes a deep dive into car rides, how they connect humanity, my perspective on how they align us with different realities, car personalities, the truth about road rage, and more. It would be perfect if you were listening to this in the car...I hope this episode inspires you to expand your mind and think deeper and bigger about life's daily motions.

The power of the gut! Today's 'big topic' episode is all about our intuition, the gut feeling, or whatever you are inclined to call it. I talk about what intuition is, the physiology of the brain-gut connection (mind-blowing), and how we can better tap into this celestial ability to know the right answers without the need for logic.

This episode is a reminder to appreciate and find interest in all things 'boring' and 'mundane' on the daily level - things we do and see on a daily basis but don't think twice about; like, brushing your teeth, whether you shampoo or wash your body first, and if you eat to live, or live to eat. These behaviors are engrained in us based on what we learned as a kid, what type of lifestyles we live, and other unique preferences that shape our routines.
How many times can I say 'fascinated'? I think it's clear that I'm passionate about this stuff.

In this episode we dive into the topic of dreams - what they are from both scientific and spiritual perspectives, and some crazy theories about them. Dreams are one of the most fascinatingly bizarre experiences that humans have. We go about life thinking they are so ordinary...they are anything but. I talk about my personal experiences with dreams and my beliefs about what they represent or uncover about our subconscious/hidden parts of ourselves. Juicy stuff! What do you think dreams are? Are they just random neuronal firings of the brain that don't have any meaning? Or do they reveal something more about ourselves? No wrong answers, we may never know for sure.

Welcome to This Extra Ordinary Life, with your host Heather Offermann (hi, that's me!). In this debut episode I introduce myself by talking about my journey as I weave together my creative/eclectic heart with my knowledge-seeking/deep thinking mind. I crave below-the-surface conversations that inspire me to keep thinking about myself and humanity as a whole in new ways.
This podcast will dive into topics of both the “ordinary” and the out-of-this-world, nothing really in between. I think as humans we spend so much time in the middle-level areas of thought (work, finances, drama, politics, etc.) and not enough time appreciating the little things, or pondering the bigger questions in life.
