Today I give you a peek into my own network of Awesome Ladies who has been with me every step of the way during this leap from Google. These ladies are my rocks and also push me to continue to grow. Everyone needs a safey net - this is mine. Kristin, Dot & Melissa each have taken their own leaps at different parts of their careers and lives. Each of us brings a different perspective. Today we dive into what F*ck the Handcuffs means to each of us.

The title of today's episode is a quote from Brene Brown that reads "When we Deny Our Stories, they Define Us. When We Own Our Stories, We Get to Write the Ending." Today I dive into why I laugh when people tell me I'm so brave for sharing my story (because for so many years I kept it bottled inside) and how for me, the bravery wasn't in sharing it with others, it was owning my story for myself. 

In my conversation with Morgan, she opens up about the struggles she faced with postpartum depression after the birth of her second child. She also discusses the even darker life phase she experienced when she learned about the sexual abuse her brother experienced throughout his childhood. We have an authentic conversation about big, painful emotions and how Morgan was able to work through hers, and now help others do the same!

Today I share a moment that I recently shared with my oldest daughter who will be 5 in a few weeks. We were at a playground and she and a friend started to get picked on by older kids. By the end of the interaction, my 4.5 year old had the 7+ year olds committing to another outdoor playdate the following day. What can we all learn from her? Being curious, asking questions...this leads to connection.

Tammy left her career as a registered nurse to stay home and raise her four children. It turned out that she could only take so much Sesame Street and returned to her first love—writing. Tammy spent a few years working solely in fiction then switched gears to non-fiction while she practiced as a life coach and writing coach. After her third child came out as transgender, she focused her work on helping parents of transgender kids, blogging, and writing mainstream articles. She continues to return to her love of writing both fiction and non-fiction. When not at her desk, Tammy can be found hiking in the Rocky Mountains with her family and beloved cavapoo Milo.

1) How discovering that her son was transgender helped Tammy dive deep into herself to learn who she truly was

2) The best way to support others is through educating yourself (and others) on the topic to increase your understanding

What if we changed the narrative on courage and it mean that we unequivocally put ourselves first. Not waiting until something happens that forces us to put ourselves first. To me, that is the definition of courage. Because in a world that says humans/mothers/parents/leaders need to put themselves last, having the courage to flip the script & boldly claim that you are putting yourself first - unequivocally - is courageous. Today I talk about this and also give some tips on how to practically do this.
