Today I talk with my very good friend, Melissa MacGowan as she shares her journey with early menopause and what that experience was like as a corporate leader and how that manifested in a way for her to take a big leap of faith, despite being the bread winner in her family, and leave corporate to venture off on her own and lean in to her passions more.

A bit more about Melissa in her own words:

I’m Melissa MacGowan - wife and mother of four - 20 year veteran in corporate people and culture - and someone who experienced an energy crisis and premature menopause.   It was at this point that I realized I needed to make some changes for myself, my career and my family. One of my biggest learnings was to discover my energy leaks - the areas of my work that were draining me in unnecessary and unproductive ways. To cut to the chase, the clarity I gained resulted in the creation of a toolkit to help myself and others out of this energy leaking cycle, to become better leaders and enjoy life.  This is now my mission and why I started Go To Grow.   Go To Grow helps you navigate the rocky road towards greater growth through boosting engagement, reducing burnout risk factors and fueling your impact in leadership and in your life.

One of my go-to stories is that I've got it all myself. But here's the thing I've had to learn - asking for help isn't a weakness, it's actually a strength.

She was born in Harlem, NY raised in Mount Vernon, NY via Teaneck, NJ. Now resides in Winterville, NC with her three children Regina, Franklin Jr. and Dillon. She is a professional organizer and certified life coach. Last year, she started her business Smithwick Solutions LLC that offers organizational services. She also hosts and produces the Facebook talk show "Let's Talk". Plus she just became a published author of the book titled "Adoption: The Unknown Blessing". She attended Virginia State University and received her Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from National University. Last but not least, she is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Today I dive into a recent moment I had out with the girls and I was yet again reminded, leading with compassion, empathy & curiosity is much better than being an asshole. So don't be an asshole. ;-)

Today I talk with my dear friend, Tiffany Huff-Strothers as she shares how she was able to take her own power back by rediscovering herself after an abusive relationship. She walks us through her experience with homelessness and how establishing a dynamic morning routine and using the notion of "Being Famous at Home" helped her get through a difficult season.

Tiffany Huff-Strothers, also known as “The Bounce Back Guide” is a Wife, Mother, Christian Life Coach passionate about helping women rebuild their lives after setbacks.  As Host of The Bounce Back Blueprint Podcast + Award-Winning Author, she is helping women bounce back and transform their lives daily. Tiffany is also CEO of When She Thrives, a community-based organization dedicated to empowering single mothers to move their families from poverty to prosperity through advocacy, education, personal and professional development.   

In 2017, she published two books: 30 Day Stay: A Story of Escaping Death, Healing From Heartbreak & Finding Hope in Homelessness, and EmpowerMoments for the Everyday Woman A 31 Day Devotional to Empower Your Womanhood. Additionally, through When She Thrives, she worked with dozens of single mothers to publish Scenes From A Single Mom Volumes I and II +III.  

Tiffany studied Communication + Professional Writing at Carlow University and Higher Education Management at The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Education.  

In her spare time, you can catch her in the stands cheering for her sons, curled up with a good book, or in the kitchen trying new recipes with her husband.
