Today, to acknowledge Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month (and the 7 year anniversary of my own pregnancy loss of Clark) I go deeper into some of the moments that stick out to me most when I think about my own pregnancy loss. I get emotional in this one team, so bear with me, but I dive into some of the stigma (only tell people you're pregnant after the 1st trimester!) that causes women to feel alone & isolated during a time when they need community the most. Bring some tissues for this one!
xoxo, Jessi

If this pandemic taught us anything, it’s that we have this one life. This rings true for my dear friend Eve McDavid as she shares her experience after being diagnosed with cervical cancer. She is all too familiar with trying to navigate her new reality within her self defined bubble. It was when broke the wall of shame that she truly became the leader of her own life.
A little bit more about Eve:
FemTech entrepreneur, Eve McDavid, is a Google Strategy Executive and Stage IIB Cervical Cancer survivor. She began her career in media and technology 15 years ago at the beginning of the modern digital marketing era. In January 2020, Eve was diagnosed with cancer one month before her second baby was due. She underwent aggressive treatment in New York City during the rise of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
With her husband's unwavering devotion and the commitment of an unflappable care team, Eve reached remission in 2021. Forever transformed by Cervical Cancer, Eve is a passionate advocate for women's healthcare access and equity.

In our first episode since coming back from our summer hiatus, we jump into all things identity. In this episode, I dive into answering the question “Who Are You?” and why it can be so damn difficult to answer that question at times. I share vulnerably about my own struggle with my identity, when so much of my identity & worth has been tied to Google for so long, and how I’ve worked through some of that.
I hope you enjoy the conversation!

Today’s conversation is with Emily Adler Mosqueda, and we got super real about postpartum depression; what it is, when it happens, how long it can last, and why we need to change our perspective about it. We discussed the need to work on breaking stigmas, because mental health is not a weakness, and most importantly learning to love and accept ourselves where we are at.
A little bit more about Emily in her own words: I’m a native Oregonian, bilingual and bicultural pediatric speech-language pathologist with over ten years experience working with kids and their families birth to five. I work as a clinical supervisor for the University of Oregon. I’m a mom of two girls and my husband is a dr of Chinese medicine. You can continue to follow her on Instagram at @emily.adler.mosqueda.

“We believe the perception of perfection leads to isolation but VULNERABILITY births SOLIDARITY. “ —Jamina Bone
In a mash up of both a #MyTruthTuesday and a conversation with Jamina Bone, I share my epiphany around how when I'm in a downward spiral, the story I tell myself is that I can do this all on my own, I don't need help, and just how dangerous that can be (for me). I share a vulnerable moment around my feelings around asking for help. Which is then juxtaposed against my conversation with Jamina Bone, illustrator, community curator, and all around badass woman around the importance of community (which I wholeheartedly believe in!). Jamina shares with an openness & vulnerability around her story and why she's such a strong believer that your struggles as a mom don’t need to define you. You can be an imPERFECT parent and still be a good mom.
Jamina is an amazing human and you can find out more about her and her community at www.mommingwithtruth.com (check out the different ways to support or join her community!) or on Instagram @MommingWithTruth.
I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did!

Today I had the honor of having a conversation with Sara & Misasha, the co-founders of the social justice podcast, Dear White Women. In our conversation, Sara & Misasha get raw & authentic about their own experiences with racial injustice and why leaning into this conversation isn't always easy but is so important.
Dear White Women is an award-winning weekly podcast dedicated to easing you into real and uncomfortable conversations about racial and social justice. The show is co-hosted by two half-Japanese, half-White mothers with very mixed race children, who believe that when we learn about our nation’s history and look more deeply at our personal experiences with race and identity, we gain the power to effect personal and systemic change.

For this #MyTruthTuesday, I go deeper in some moments where I've recognized I am suppressing my emotions, building up walls and share lessons I've learned from doing so. Most importantly, I share the mantra that keeps running through my head recently....Give yourself permission. Give yourself permission. It bears repeating because how many of us stop ourselves, build up walls, suppress emotions, before we give ourselves permission to feel?! I know I do!

Today I chat with Anastasia Washington who shares her story of how her anxiety manifested in an eating disorder. But at the heart of our conversation we talk about layers. We all have layers to ourselves, our emotions & how we internalize & externalize what's happening around us. When we can understand that about each other (and ourselves!) perhaps we can all be a bit more empathetic to one another.
You can follow Anastasia on her journey at https://www.anastasiawashington.com/ or listen to her (hilarious!) podcast Cereal Killer or follow her on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/anastasiawash/.

"Often the best gift you can give yourself is time alone - some time to ask yourself questions & listen quietly for answers." Katrina Mayer
Today on the podcast, I have the pleasure of talking with Kristin Swanson. Kristin is my kind of person...she's authentic and has this presence that just makes you want to become friends with her immediately. Kristin opens up & shares about her journey in coping with losing her mom, her journey with breast cancer and also about her decision to go alcohol free. In our conversation, we find connections across our two experiences, though widely different, there are common threads.

In the first episode, our host, Jessi Shuraleff, talks about the intention of This Is My Truth. A platform for honest, open conversations. The stories shared are not often spoken about or discussed, but once told, have the ability to shine a light on another perspective, or a much needed conversation. These stories may make us laugh, some may make us cry, but together, we will learn from one another and begin to heal. Because walls need to be torn down, masks need to come off, stories need to be heard in order our truths to be told. This is my Truth. Tell me Yours.
