Today I have, what I would call, a magical conversation with my friend Nicole Edwards. This chat is centered around my motto of "F*ck the handcuffs" and growing into who you really are while shedding the people-pleasing mentality we, at times, tend to adopt. Nicole shares her truth and journey about being curious in her own life and challenging her own thinking.

A bit about Nicole:

With a professional background in mental health and talent development that spans over 20 years, Nicole has been a catalyst for growth for people and organizations—working with thousands of individuals in educational, corporate and nonprofit settings.

Nicole dedicates her life’s work to cheering on others to live and work from a space that reflects their personalities, values and talents. With her inspired approach to teaching, Nicole has been afforded opportunities to design certificate and leadership courses, facilitate corporate retreats, speak at international conferences, write for well-known online publications and land a spot on the big red dot with her TEDx talk called In Your Eyes.

In 2019, Nicole created Edwards Authentic, a vision brought to life by providing transformative experiences for professional women. Through insightful content, workshops and retreats, Nicole aspires to create a sanctuary for women to flourish in their personal and professional endeavors.

As a passionate lifelong learner, Nicole is currently working on her doctorate at Florida Atlantic University. She holds the Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) designation, the pinnacle of achievement in the talent development field.

Today I talk with my friend Makini Smith as she shares her truth. She explains how our stories are shaped and molded through our own perspective based on our upbringing and surroundings. She shares a story about her upbringing and how it has impacted the relationships she found herself in and the work she's done to reflect and understand how that's, in turn, impacted the world around her. Towards the end of our conversation, Makini: the "come back queen", touches on resilience and how in order to fully understand what true resilience was, she had to be willing to put in the work.

Today I talk with my friend, Angela Engel on the topic of breastfeeding. Today I talk with Regan Walsh, who I connected with over Instagram, and instantly knew we would be great friends because the first thing she did was send me a personal video to introduce herself. I appreciated so much that she got personal with me in such a virtual world and knew she would bring a "keep it real" attitude to our conversation and allow herself to be honest and vulnerable. 

In our conversation, Regan walks us through why her truth is wrapped up in shame and how it relates to her current business and brand that she's worked so hard to build.

Regan Walsh is an NYU-certified executive and life coach who focuses on helping women who are overprogrammed and underwhelmed to reclaim their lives, both personally and professionally. She contributes to Harvard Business Review and Forbes, and has been featured in Fast Company, NBC.com, Today, and Real Simple.

She has coached thousands of women through her one-on-one and group coaching programs, and she is regularly asked to give keynotes, facilitate workshops, and speak on panels for Fortune 500 companies. She has done so for clients like Freddie Mac, Nike, Intuit, and JPMorgan.

Heart Boss, her first book, was published earlier this year.

Today I'm introducing you to my friend Sarah Devereaux. We go way back to our beginnings of working at Google together and I'm really excited we recently reconnected. In our conversation, we talk about our individual experiences of leaving Google as she shares with us her truth - that her identity is no longer tied to her career at Google, and what that looks like for her. 

We spend time talking about what it is that defines us as women and why. And she brings us a personal story about her family and I am couldn't be more grateful that she trusted me enough to share that part of her journey.

A bit more about Sarah:

Sarah spent 14 years in the Learning and Leadership Development space at Google. Some of her more recent roles included: Head of Executive Development Programs, Head of Strategic Initiatives for The Google School for Leaders, and Global Lead of the g2g (Googlers-to-Googlers) program.

Sarah started Third Coast Coaching in 2019 and has been coaching and facilitating for more than a decade on a variety of topics, including: resilience, wellbeing, innovation, self-awareness, leadership, complexity theory, systems thinking, and more. Sarah has a passion for learning and helping individuals and organizations to realize their full potential. She is particularly passionate about coaching senior women leaders in traditionally male-dominated industries, like tech, finance, and manufacturing.

Sarah also leads Marketing and Customer Success for a SaaS startup, Murmur, where she's helping to build the first comprehensive system of record for working agreements. Murmur is all about helping teams *agree* to work better together in a way that builds psychological safety, creates a sense of belonging, and places equal value on ideas no matter where they come from.

Today I talk with my friend Manuel Astruc, and I so appreciated our conversation because he is really honest about his journey and experiences. So often, men are living the lives we, as women, thought they'd always dreamed of. Yet, there's something inside so many that craves more. Rather than talking about it, we numb ourselves to it - from doing mundane things like Netflix-ing and staying in bed to more extreme ways like alcoholism. Even though from the outside looking in we seem to "have it all."

A bit more about Manuel:

Manuel Astruc is an experienced board certified psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience and 50,000 hours helping individual face to face.

His own struggles with burnout, addiction and depression inspired him to start Your Next Act, his coaching program for high performing entrepreneurs suffering from stress and burnout. The outside world sees one side of a successful entrepreneur, but there is another side to success. From stressed out to burnt out to numbed out, high-achievers pay a price for their success that they keep to themselves.   

Manuel takes what he’s learned working in the field, his work as an entrepreneur and his own life experiences and brings it to entrepreneurs to help them feel their best and perform their  best at home and in their business.

Today I share about a recent moment where I almost didn't stand strong & speak my truth. I didn't want to. It made me uncomfortable and all of my people pleasing sh*t was coming up. But it was a moment where I needed to stand up for my daughter and highlight exclusive behaviors, and even though it was to advocate on her behalf, I still didn't want to do it. But as I dive into during the conversation, that moment of standing strong - of advocating for myself and for those I love - those moments are priceless. Because when you're able to stand strong & speak your truth - nothing can stop you.
