Voices of WLC - Jordan Soliday: Arise to an Unhurried Life

What if our society’s devotion to speed and efficiency—not only in pace, but in thinking and behavior—is the primary culprit for the crises of today? What if hurried leadership is the cause? In the words of psychologist Carl Jung, “Hurry is not of the devil; hurry is the devil.” What does the Bible and various modern industry leaders teach about the re-emergent practice of “slowing,” and how can it transform us into the 21st century disciples for Jesus that our hurried world needs to see?

One of our #WholeLifeReflections this week asked:  What if as Seventh-day Adventists our scope of the sabbath and its role in the end times has been too narrow?

When we’re facing our darkest moments, instead of seeking to rise out of a difficulty, what might it mean when we are called to rise into a challenging situation? How do we find the courage to arise into the darkness? In the garden of Gethsemane as Jesus was about to face the darkest hours of his life, what did he do to rise to the challenge?

The Sabbath was created to be a time of joy, but it’s not always experienced that way. When human rules are added on top of rules on top of rules to “protect” the Sabbath, this day of blessing can be misinterpreted and its meaning lost. How can we ARISE to the realization that the Sabbath is the most powerful and meaningful spiritual discipline in our lives?
