Welcome back to a new episode of “This One Thing” where each week we are challenged to look at a truth from God's word and choose to apply it to our lives. This week Melina Puente and Crystal Wright focus on the authority and mercy of Jesus to restore a man tormented by demon possession. In the aftermath of this miracle, the man begs to go with Jesus as one of his followers but is given other instructions instead in Mark 5:19, But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.”
When the mercy of Jesus shows up and transforms our lives, we often find ourselves eagerly looking for ways to respond with our whole hearts and lives. Although the specifics of how this plays out in each Christian life may vary, Jesus gives each of his followers an important assignment, "tell them everything I have done." Every transformed heart has the opportunity to testify of God's healing, mercy, power, and redemption. What's your salvation story? How has God redeemed you from pain and torment? Do you trust that God can use your testimony wherever you are living, working, and serving? God desires to use the power of what He has done in your life to show others the way to freedom.

"This One Thing" is excited to welcome you back this fall as we resume our commitment to studying together and applying God's word to our daily lives. Kerri Kenyon Dern and Crystal Wright start off the new series in the gospels, looking at the life of Jesus and His response to the fears and suffering of those around Him. In Mark chapter 4, the disciples find themselves afraid for their lives as they are caught in a storm they are unable to handle. Hearing their desperate cries, Jesus silences the storm and turns His attention to His fearful followers. "Then He asked them, 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?'" (Mark 4:40).
Jesus' decision to enter into this storm with His disciples was not an accident, but instead a brilliant opportunity to help them see that their fear was rooted in not yet understanding who He really was and how much He loved them. So, why are you so afraid? Just like with His disciples, God continues to intentionally orchestrate the circumstances and storms of your life to cause you to come face to face with your need to really know and experience Him. The storms you are facing are of immeasurable worth because they allow all fears and false beliefs to be revealed, so that God can remove them and replace them with a deeper understanding of His great love and power. Knowing this, you can choose faith over fear in the midst of the storms that take you to the end of yourself, allowing you to experience mercy, grace, power, and love from the only Savior powerful enough to rescue you!

Thank you for joining us for “This One Thing”. This week Kerri Kenyon Dern and Crystal Wright look at the powerful and hope-filled words of Jesus in His last message to His followers. Knowing that His death was near, He comforts them in John 16:33 by saying, “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Kerri and Crystal share transparently as they reflect on Jesus' message of peace in the midst of trials; a message for his disciples and for all of us as believers. Join us as they discuss the truth found in the invitation to intimacy with Jesus through sorrow and hardships, and the choice to experience the peace Jesus has made available for us. Do you recognize Jesus’ invitation into peace in your own life? Have you received His invitation to use your pain and sorrow as a catalyst for peace? Is your heart fixated on your personal experiences with pain and suffering or the promise given to you that Jesus has already overcome? The joy of receiving God’s peace allows us to overcome every trial and difficulty in this world. And through the Holy Spirit, knowing Jesus gives us the strength we need to love others through our trials and sorrows. Take Heart!

Welcome to episode 50 of "This One Thing" where we are challenged to apply God's truth to our daily lives. This week Kerri Kenyon Dern and Crystal Wright go back into Psalm 121 to reflect upon God's perfect protection of His people as they journey through life. Psalm 121:8 says, " The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."
God has made a promise to watch over and protect His children in every season of our lives. But God's protection does not always look the way we imagined it should, leaving us confused, defensive, and angry. You may find yourself doubting and even fighting against God's protection because you can't make sense of the circumstances you find yourself in. Psalm 121:8 is a reminder that despite your uncertainty or troubled heart, God is faithfully watching over you just as He has faithfully watched over every generation. Kerri and Crystal share how this verse has challenged them to submit each circumstance of their lives to God, believing that He is protecting the plans He has for them and is using their unique journeys to bring them into greater intimacy with Him. Their prayer is that you would receive God's loving invitation to trust Him with every detail of your life and grow in your confidence in His perfect protection.

This week on “This One Thing” Crystal Wright and Melina Puente discuss the care and protection God provides as He watches over His children on their journey towards His presence. As one of the Psalms of Ascent sung each year by pilgrims returning to God’s dwelling place in Jerusalem, Psalm 121:3 writes this promise, “He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.”
Like centuries before, we long to be in God’s presence and are pilgrims on the path God has chosen each of us to travel. Where does your hope come from as you look around this world? What is your life’s journey focused on? Who do you place your trust in when the journey gets difficult and dangerous? Crystal and Melina reflect on these questions and discuss the hope and challenges we face to trust in the loving God who sovereignly designed the journey we each must travel. No matter the circumstances you find yourself in, God's purpose is to bring you back to the fullness of His presence and your true home with Him. Join us as we are reminded that no matter how long, difficult, or steep the journey is our God never stops watching over us; he will not let us stumble on this path.

Welcome back to a new episode of “This One Thing” where each week we are challenged to look at a truth from God's word and choose to apply it to our lives. This week Kerri Kenyon Dern and Melina Puente share a fresh perspective on one of Jesus’ most challenging statements to his followers. Mark 8:34 records His words, “Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”
Following Jesus as a true disciple starts with a supernatural exchange; handing over our own will so that we are free to follow Christ and obey His plan for our lives. It is a life marked by surrendering ourselves to Him, identifying with Him in suffering, and following His words. These are clear but challenging truths that cut to the core of our own self-will, plans, and understanding. Jesus invites us to be his disciples, he doesn’t demand. We get to choose. Kerri and Melina share what a worthwhile life of surrender to Jesus looks like, and encourage each of us to trust God's will above our own. Give up your way, take up your cross and follow Him, He is worth it!

This week we're replaying one of our favorite episodes in which Kerri shares how her sister, Kim Ordile, reminded her of the Apostle Paul. As you listen, we pray that Kim's life and example challenge and encourage you as you run your race towards Jesus. Don't grow weary, don't lose heart, He has promised to give you everything you need until you see Him face to face!
Throughout his letter to the church in Philippians, Paul pours out his appreciation and love to the close-knit community of believers who stood firm in their commitment to Christ and their support of him. In Philippians 1:6, Paul writes these encouraging words to his dear friends, "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."
Do you struggle to feel "certain" that God is doing a divine work in your life and circumstances? Don't give up! He will give you everything you need from start to finish! This promise reminds us to remain humble, encouraged, and dependent on Jesus each step of the way. We can be confident that God sees our internal struggles and the challenging circumstances we face in life. He is at work in all of it. Join us and be reminded that God is using everything in your life to bring glory to Himself. He is drawing others into seeing His power and goodness through your journey. Because of His promise to faithfully accomplish His will within you, you have the certainty you need to keep your eyes on Him and run the unique race He has called you to!

Welcome to a new episode of “This One Thing.” This week Kerri Kenyon Dern and Melina Puente share the conviction Mark 8:15 exposes as Jesus confronts the traditions of man pretending to be the Truth of God. “It is not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.”
