  • Start to Finish: Philippians 1:6 | Episode 39

This week on "This One Thing" Kerri Kenyon Dern and Melina Puente launch a four-week series in the book of Philippians. Throughout this letter, Paul pours out his appreciation and love to the close-knit community of believers who stood firm in their commitment to Christ and their support of Paul. In Philippians 1:6 Paul writes these encouraging words to his dear friends, "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."

Do you struggle to feel "certain" that God is doing a divine work in your life and circumstances? Don't give up! He will give you everything you need from start to finish! This promise reminds us to remain humble, encouraged, and dependent on Jesus each step of the way. We can be confident that God sees our internal struggles and the challenging circumstances we face in life. He is at work in all of it. Sharing from their own experiences, Kerri and Melina remind us that God is using everything in our lives to bring glory to Himself and to draw others into seeing His power and goodness. Because of His promise to faithfully accomplish His will within us, we have the certainty we need to keep our eyes on Him and run the unique race He has called us to!

  • Who "Galatians 5:7'd" You?: Galatians 5:7 | Episode 37

Welcome back to a new episode of "This One Thing." This week Kerri Kenyon Dern and Crystal Wright discuss an important question Paul posed to the early followers of Jesus. In Galatians 5:7 he asks, "You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth?"

Paul's straightforward question is a startling reminder that although we have experienced the grace of Jesus, we are not exempt from getting sidetracked from the truth. Do you find yourself feeling restrained or held back from living fully in the promised grace and freedom of Jesus? Do you struggle with being influenced by the voice of others more than the Word of God? If this describes you, please know that God's grace is ready to meet you right where you are; helping you to refocus your eyes on Jesus and your ears on the truth of His Word. Our prayer is that through the power of the Holy Spirit, your 2022 will be a race well run!

  • Only The Cross: Galatians 2:21 | Episode 36

Welcome back to another week of “This One Thing". In today’s episode, Kerri Kenyon Dern and Crystal Wright continue for a second week in the book of Galatians, diving deeper into Paul’s teaching on choosing Jesus over the Old Testament law. In Galatians 2:21 he writes, “I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

As believers, we are called to be uncompromising in the message that Christ’s death and resurrection alone have the power to bring us salvation. As Paul passionately reminds us, to add or subtract anything from this grace we’ve received is to set aside and betray the sacrifice of Jesus. Kerri and Crystal invite you to join them in letting go of the things in our lives that we use as replacements for the forgiveness and acceptance that can only be found in Jesus. We pray that in the coming year we will hold fast to the grace we have been given, living in the freedom and forgiveness found only through the cross of Christ!

  • Pleaser or Servant?: Galatians 1:10 | Episode 35

Happy New Year and thank you for joining us for this year’s first episode of “This One Thing.” Kerri Kenyon Dern and her guest Crystal Wright kick-off 2022 by meditating on the apostle Paul’s passionate commitment to choose God’s revealed truth over the approval of any human being. In Galatians 1:10 he writes, “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”

Do you struggle with people-pleasing and compromising the truth? Do you find yourself feeling pressured to conform to the wishes, opinions, or expectations of others even when they are contradictory to the grace and freedom offered in Christ Jesus? Kerri and Crystal invite you to join them in an honest discussion about the real temptation believers face to seek the approval of man over devotion to Christ and His word. Learning from Paul’s own story of redemption, we are challenged to start this New Year by examining ourselves, allowing the Holy Spirit to purge us of pleasing people, and recommitting to the clear message of grace and truth found only through Jesus Christ!
